Multi-Dimension Victory Point Format
I have been playing around with a victory point format. I'll post it in full below, but let me say up-front that the full menu of scoring options may be too much for a typical tournament event; a discerning Tournament Director will almost certainly want to select a subset of ways to score for their event. For home games, I say the more ways to score, the better
I think this format is particularly well-suited to a multiplayer format, since the scoring method is much easier than tracking partial card scoring on kills. -- Each game will end after a pre-set number of rounds (typically 4 or 5 rounds for a 2-player game, 3 or 4 for a 3-4 player game, or 3 rounds for a 5+ player game). Whoever has the most points at that time wins the game, regardless of the number of figures remaining on the board (even if one player's army has been completely destroyed). Ties In the case of a tie, play one additional round if time allows. If time does not allow or the game is still tied after an additional round, use partial card scoring as the tiebreaker. Scoring Scoring is performed at the end of the round, after all end of round effects have been resolved, before the next round begins. Key Points and Objective Zones Each map will have at least one "Key Point." The Key Point and all hexes within 2 hexes of that Key Point are called an Objective Zone. These Objective Zones will be used for scoring (see below). For your army to control an Objective Zone, you must have more army cards of figures in the Objective Zone (on or within two spaces of the Key Point) than your opponent does. Battle Standards As an optional rule, each army may begin the game with a single Battle Standard treasure glyph in the possession of a Unique Hero in that army. In addition to an increased point value as a treasure glyph, a Battle Standard also counts as one additional army card of figures for your army in any Objective Zones the bearer occupies at the end of the round. Point Values Points are scored at the end of every round as follows:
At the end of Round 3, caps has 5 Knights of Weston, Arkmer (carrying a Battle Standard), and 3 Goblin Cutters within an Objective Zone. firewings has Moltenclaw, Mimring, and Otonashi within that same Objective Zone. caps has 5 army cards in the Zone (2 cards of Knights, Arkmer, the Battle Standard, and 1 card of Goblin Cutters), whereas firewings has 3 army cards in the Zone (Moltenclaw, Mimring, and Otonashi). caps would score 3 Victory Points for that Objective Zone (since it is the third round). caps and firewings would repeat this process for any other Objective Zones. -- In the upcoming Colorado event we are using only a small subset of these scoring options, so you can get a sense for how a Tournament Director might pick and choose from the options to suit their event. Some other combinations I might consider:
