How much is range actually worth?
Or in other words, have we un-done range to much by making too melee friendly maps?

Looking at the 4th and Knights, 2 competitive 4-man 70 pt squads, it seems that range is worth about as much as bonding. I think that's a good statement, unless we take into account the maps, in which case we get that range > bonding, which means we've done good to try to balance things out.

Range helps, but it has never won me a battle on it's own merits.
I think the units are well balanced to ensure that Range or Melee armies can stand competitively. Ultimately, it is all about army selection, and effective strategy. No single power/advantage will win the game alone. If you want some range friendly maps check out Flatscape in the Download/Bin. I don't think range is anywhere near as dominant as it once was. You now have powerful short range figures to take out the long range figures, and the melee figures can better take out the short range figures. You also have an abundance of units with stealth flying, which helps against ranged units, as well.

Earlier, the 4th and KoW were mentioned. On a large map (Table of Giants), the 4th will dominate Gilbert/KoW. On a melee friendly map (Fulcrum), Gilbert/KoW will generally win.
