My opinion is that if you host a website you are responsible for the content that is why moderators and admin exist for public forums.

Some things never change! This 10 year old thread seems relevant today with the spread of misinformation and online news platforms, and with political use of FB/twitter close to a US election.

Yes, this thread certainly is still relevant. If you want to start your reading on the subject with regards to US law, the Wikipedia article Section 230 is a good place to start: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_230

Without section 230 protections or some equivalent, many small sites that publish user provided content might have to close. FB, twitter and the like would also have big problems because of their size, but the scale they operate at would be a double edged sword that also HELPS them.

The fact that Onacara, who you can see posting here, was permanently banned from the site shows that we take responsibility as a content hoster of doing what we can to protect the community from abuses.

We're obviously not (and can't be) perfect, but we try (I say after killing about three porn bots and blocking their IPs just this morning).

Is it too late to change your title to "killer of porn bots". Cause Im tellin you, that would be one heck of a title. It seems a shame we cant have a list of titles to represent us as the jousting knights of old did when entering a tournament. Keep on killing it Bats.

Heh. It’s a group effort. There are (quite tragically) plenty of pornbots to go around.
