I would get Descent, but they are completely different games.

Well, Descent is a game that takes a lot of time to play. I have heard many arguments to the contrary but we can't get a game in under four hours. With new players, that easily becomes six. I'm just talking about the scenarios in the main game. It's a big drawback, because most of our group only have a few hours tops to put toward gaming. Just something to think about.

Re: Descent: Journeys in the Dark

My son and I just got Descent and think we are getting the rules down pretty well. One question, everyone says the game is best balanced with 3 heroes. Does it make any difference if 1 player plays 3 heroes in a 2 player game? So far, I have not seen any difference as far as the rules go.

Guess I'm getting back into Scape

It doesn't really make a difference if it's 3 players controlling 3 heroes or one player controlling 3 heroes.

Thanks, I wiped my son out quick in our first game. Since it's just him and I and we can leave the board setup all the time, I was thinking he would have a better chance if he had more heroes until he figures out the strategy better.

Matthias, could you answer this one for me? Until my son gets through the quest completely, I'd rather him not see the setup to tell me which ones are Master monsters and their starting positions.

Just remember that the monsters increase in strength with the number of heroes, not players. So if your son is controlling 3 heroes the monster should be the 4 player strength (3 heroes + OL).

As far as telling you which is a master monster and which isn't unfortunately my Descent game is set up at a buddies house and I don't have it with me. We are in the middle of our RtL campaign and it's easier to leave it at his place since he has a man cave and I don't.

I didn't think about that, that's why I posed the question. Trying to learn the game myself and teach my son, I tend to get brainfried. He is just 7 years old, so giving him 3-4 heroes for now and using the 2 player monster strength should balance things to start with until he gets better.

I really wish companies would think ahead for the color deficient. It would be nice if they had included the print "RED" on the pics.
