It's intended that you can play him like that, but he loses some of his flexibility and well roundedness in exchange for becoming a mini Hulk, so he's going to have a bigger target on his back while also being easier to take down. Depends what you need in the moment or who you're facing.
Sometimes it might be worth it to quickly delete someone and/or give him a quick heal. Other times you might want to extend the rage and go after something in the backline that's a bit weaker, perhaps diverting attention. He also doesn't have to flip when an ally is destroyed, so you can hold back on it if it's not worth doing in that moment. Most of the time he doesn't want to be raging for long though.
