Oh yeah, I definitely know how to do that. I was referring to how to see rep left for other people. Like if someone left you a negative rep, I'm not sure how to look at that as an admin. Dysole seems to be saying there's a way, though.

Back in like 2008, a troll user was neg-repping people and signing it as Onacara (lol), and the admins busted him for it. There's a way.

I've been convinced by the discussion here that I was wrong about the rep system and it could use an overhaul. It's unfortunate the way people used the AoA release to turn against each other when this was always such a close knit, trusting community.

Something like a reddit-style upvote system for quality posts would probably work for 90% of what rep is supposed to do, with perhaps a second mechanism for trades. I think the reputation for positive trade history needs to be separated out from the rest of the rep because it's clearly the most important part and we don't want to create a false sense of trustworthiness for trading to people without a good trade history.

I'm just spitballing ideas though, at the end of the day I trust the admins .

The upvote system would lose a lot of nuance. When I leave rep (or in rare cases, negrep) I can privately tell the user exactly why I did so. Can't do that with an upvote or downvote.

FYI, I wasn't advocating for a big overhaul to the site or significant change to how things work. I'd leave the positive rep system the way it is and just turn off the ability to send negative rep to people.

The current rep system is not perfect for measuring who to trust on trades, but in fantasy football leagues I've seen people who were trustworthy with money for years suddenly take off with the money. So no 'rep' system will ever be perfect.

This right here. Leave it all the same, except turn off neg rep. If you truly want the voice of the people. Why not run a poll. I'm pretty much done discussing this myself, so this will be my last post about it. I thought it was pretty straightforward.

The vast majority of the time I hand out neg rep is with bots. I report the bot, and neg rep. Ideally that gives a red marker on the bot's posts in case admins or mods aren't available to dust off the ban hammer. That's one little bit of positive to neg rep that I would miss if it is done away with.

I do like that use for it as it’s really reduced the multiple reportings of the same bot. I *hope* bots are a much smaller problem after the site updates.

I personally like the idea of getting rid of neg rep and having an upvote/downvote system that is limited to a single post. That way each post is considered individually, and it doesn’t affect your “reputation” as a whole. You could still receive positive rep with messages, which are always nice to see.
