It seems like Ironclad could put some tinkerers to good use.

One of the figure sketches on the far left has a tinkered prosthetic leg. When I noticed that, I thought they maybe salvaged parts from an Ironclad machine. It could be that the Combine created the Ironclads to fight a yet-to-be-seen faction. Going a step further, maybe the Ironclads got out of hand and the Combine are doing what they can to tame the metal monsters they created.

The thing is, we've seen that the Ironclad will have an enormous Melter Deathforge in which mutilated, sawed-up corpses will be tossed and melted down to serve as nutrients for the Ironclad Collective. It seems a little odd thematically that the cute little furry woodland steampunk animals would be scurrying along beside such a grotesque machine, repairing it...but maybe that makes it all the more sinister and off-putting? I dunno.
