Fog is curiously expensive. At 25 points, compare to its 15 point black and blue siblings, Call to Heel and Strangling Soot.

Both are generally better. With Call to Heel not only do you prevent the damage, but you unsummon the squad as well. With Strangling Soot you absolutely prevent the damage that the first figure (so long as it isn't black) would have done and get a kill in the mix as well.

A smart opponent can try to game around Call to Heel and Strangling Soot by attacking with already wounded figures (or with black ones in the case of Strangling Soot), but still, Fog seems no better than comparable making the cost hard to account for. If I were creating a Green/Black or Green/Blue dual color deck Fog is an easy exclusion, I think.

I agree that it does seem overpriced but it does do things the other two spells do not.

It prevents all damage to the squad it is enchanted to for the entire turn.

Call to Heel only works against unique squad figures.
Strangling Soot works against all figures like Fog and it destroys the attacking figure (which is awesome!) but the attacker can still damage the enchanted squad on that turn.

Good points, both. Working against Planeswalkers and spells does matter. In fact, as a play on a squad that's adjacent to an enemy Planeswalker it's quite powerful.

Oh yea, it's devastating. Watch your opponent struggle with what to do when his planeswalker just got attacked by 3 rangers and they got adjacent to him and he now is trying to figure out how to get out of 3 more attacks all the while wandering how he's ever gonna kill those dumb elves.

Based on my reading of the 3 cards it looks like only Fog prevents damage and it protects all the figures in the squad not just the one that was attacked. The other two cards return the attacking figure to the reserve or destroys it but I think that occurs only after they attacked and dealt out damage.

If they end up adding common squads, then two of the cards (Fog & Soot) would protect against them (non-black for Soot) while one (Heel) is restricted to unique squads. That could be significant considering how common squads ended up dominating classic scape. Destroying a figure seems better than returning it to the reserve to me although I have not yet played the game so maybe not. If so, it looks like Heel is the weakest version of the 3.

In the card game powers cost different amounts for the different colors. Some things are more natural for certain colors to do. Red does direct damage, Green generates mana easily, White heals, Blue has counters, etc. You will see cards that do the same thing in a different color, but it will be rarer and the casting cost will be higher.
