The Book of Ultra Boy
The Book of Ultra Boy C3G DC WAVE 42 SUPERMAN FAMILY Comic PDF Mini PDF The figure used for this unit is a Heroclix figure from the Legion of Super-Heroes Collector Set set. Its model number and name are #006 / Ultra Boy. _________________________________________________________________ Character Bio - In his youth, you could say that Jo Nah hung out with the wrong crowd. Born on the planet Rimbor, Jo Nah was part of the Emerald Dragons gang there until one day he, & his space speeder, were swallowed whole by an energy beast (think large space whale). This event was witnessed by a passing Galactic Patrol Cruiser that were able to free Jo Nah by slicing the beast open. Jo Nah was exposed to a large dose of radiation from the beasts digestive system. Jo Nah discovered later that he could see through anything. After a time he came to realise that he could channel the power that enhanced his vision to enhance of abilities, like his strength or speed. However he could only focus the power to one ability at a time. After realising that he was now a Super power, he decided to try to turn his life around become a force for good helping law enforcement before receiving a recommendation to join the Legion. _________________________________________________________________ -Rulings and Clarifications-

SECRET IDENTITY = JO NAH SPECIES = RIMBORIAN UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = LEGIONNAIRE PERSONALITY = BOLD SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5 LIFE = 6 MOVE = 7 RANGE = 1 ATTACK = 4 DEFENSE = 4 POINTS = 370 FLASH VISION SPECIAL ATTACK Range 5. Attack 3. After rolling attack dice against a non-adjacent figure, for each skull rolled, roll one additional attack die. Ultra Boy may not use the Super Strength special power when attacking with this special attack. ULTRA-STRENGTH When attacking a figure that was 4 or fewer spaces from the space Ultra Boy occupied at the start of this turn, you may add 4 to his Attack number. ULTRA-SPEED After Ultra Boy attacks a figure with his normal attack, if that figure was 5 or more spaces from the space Ultra Boy occupied at the start of this turn, he may attack one additional time with his normal attack. ULTRA-DURABILITY When rolling defense dice against a non-adjacent figure or a figure that Ultra Boy has not attacked this round, add 4 to his Defense number. FLYING SUPER STRENGTH

Ultra Boy is another that breaks the desired aesthetics for the Legionnaires but they are basically one power just broken out for simplicity of reading. And really all the powers are mainly doing are altering his base stats. So I'm ok with this break.

Kinda weird to me that speed adds 2 dice and an auto-shield to defense. Speed just feels like the marker that does the most so I might try to simplify that one. But I do like the concept.

Yeah, Speed needs to be streamlined. You definitely want all the defensive effects in one place, though maybe just trim them to the auto shield?
Not sure if the range will be used much. Four range isn't terribly great, so it's hard to imagine you wouldn't just want to close in with speed and then convert to all strength stuff. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Yeah I was going to make a comment about all the defense stuff. Since every marker basically calls for it wouldn't it be easier just to up his base defense by two and then you can lose one and reduce the two +4 to +2
Also I updated your Art by as I assume you will do your own art. That is our current tracking method. Someone claims the Art by adding their name to the Art by since all Art Department have mod rights. Otherwise Arkham will swoop in and claim all the art. Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those. |

Hmm, eaten by a space whale, very interesting.
I agree that Ultra-Speed is probably the one I would trim, and I think the auto-skull is probably what I'd cut. And I sort of feel like Ultra-Vision needs an extra power, just to make the symmetry a little better. I like the idea of each pip being +4 to a stat, +4 to Defense (with a qualifier), and a unique ability. I do think it's a bit of a break from the Legion aesthetics, but since you're kind of the standard bearer there, I trust when you think it's worth breaking from precedent. Speed is the one that I was always tossing & turning about. I never originally had the auto shield that was something I added today (but been thinking about for a long time) as it just didn't feel right to not be better defensively when he is moving so fast. I will drop the auto shield & change it up to a flat +4 defense.

Maybe something about not having his clear sight affected by any special powers? Don’t know if that works mechanically but might be interesting.

Or non adjacent figures do not get terrain and height? bonuses. Could you justify a longer Range? That would help.
Double skulls from Range would be a wicked boost. Or maybe an auto skull. |

Nice to see another A3n design. This another of those busy designs, but with being able to choose what powers are in effect when, it should be fine.

Ultra Vision is supposed to encompass something similar to Heat Vision so we could go something similar to that. Maybe:
