Best To Worst Star Wars Movie By Ranking Individual Chapters

My order for them:
Revenge of the sith, love when the overconfident good guys get put in their place. Also the pinnacle of clonetroopers evolution, in my opinion.
Rogue one, I like the story told, how it ties in with the other movies, and how it shows a realistic sacrifice for what costs there are to support a cause like the rebellion.
A new hope, I enjoy the characters and their journey and growth
Empire strikes back, same reasons as new hope
Return of the jedi, same as previous two fulfilling that story arc.
Attack of the clones, only for telling the story, love clone troopers, love seeing their origin along with jango fett. Meh graphics and bad acting on some parts.
Phantom menace, same as episode 2 with the story telling arc. Big points for darth maul and cool units like droidekas, otherwise kind of meh.
Force awakens, gets points for good graphics and getting everyone excited for star wars again. Meh characters that arent very interesting and have no character progression. Cool new looking stormtroopers.
Solo, and the last jedi, solo didnt give me any star wars vibes really at all. A couple of cool units like the variation of empire trooper and walker units but otherwise meh. Last jedi did nothing for me. It killed characters that had possibilities for awesome new stories. Took story arcs to nowhere such as the casino world journey. Uninteresting characters that have no character growth. Political bs agendas overflowing out everywhere, demasculation of luke skywalker. Really left a bitter taste. Agree with you guys hoping they will clean it up for episode 9.

Edit: and I really disliked Leia poppins. That just seemed like a bad joke.

I need to move Revenge of the Sith to my second lowest spot. I remembered my beef with it. If you watched the movies in the proper order (so 4, 5, and 6 first) then RotS completely lacks any dramatic tension because you know exactly how it's going to end. And, honestly, the execution of that stuff was pretty lackluster (like everything Anakin did off screen).

Its just my opinion, putting them in the order I like them. It really shouldnt bother you guys if peoples opinions vary from your own. Im glad we get more star wars content and hope for the best of them when making episode 9. I like and dislike things in every star wars movie and am happy to keep buying star wars miniatures games and other neat star wars stuff too. Recently Ive purchased around 400 dollars worth of star wars legion miniatures game stuff and am loving it. To each their own on their opinions of film order.

Done it. Counted to 10. Tried to see it from his point of view. Still think it's a terrible installment in the franchise. Considering therapy, but I can't decide if I should go or we should send Rian Johnson.

There were quite a few criteria I had when ranking the chapters. Of course, the scene itself, but also what it adds to the movie itself and the overall Star Wars story.

"Was it fun to watch?" "Was there a memorable line in the chapter?" "How was the acting?" And everything in between.

Some of those things are why RotS scored so high on my rankings. Those opening scenes are, IMO of course, the best opening scenes of any of the movies. They are also some of the longest so when the ranking relies on Length and Quality, obviously the longer and better quality chapters score the highest.

EDIT: Also, compared to the critic sites that come up when searching each movie, every movie was pretty close to those sites. There was some differential. The Force Awakens ranked lower on my list. Revenge of the Sith and The Last Jedi depend on which site you look at whether they were ranked lower or higher on my list. Solo ranked higher on my list than many critics. Other than those 4 movies, everything else was pretty on the spot, so I wouldn't necessarily say that this was a horrible metric for ranking the movies.

Rogue One's probably my favorite. New Hope, Revenge of the Sith, and Empire Strikes Back are all very closely ranked for me, I think ESB may be second though. I'd have to go back and watch them all again to be sure.

Thought I might toss in my two pennies. Here's my rakings.

1. Empire Strikes Back

In my opinion, it's the pinnacle of Star Wars. Great action, dialog, memorable moments, and quotes. The battle of Hoth and the duel between Vader and Luke are some of the best moments in the franchise.

2. Revenge of the Sith

Another great movie that not only has memorable moments, but generated some of the best memes. Despite knowing how everything ends up, the movie still presents a good journey to a recognizable end.

3. Return of the Jedi

The end of the first trilogy came with such an emotional ending. And to those that think the Ewoks were stupid for beating the Empire, you gotta remember they also captured the rebels.

4. Rogue One

Rogue One recaptured the Star Wars magic to shine a bright light for Disney. Showing the darker side of the Rebellion was refreshing to see in a franchise that always portrayed them as purely good. Great action and memorable characters were very welcome. Alan Tudyk as K2 and the Vader scene gave this movie a good boost in my rankings.

5. A New Hope

The movie that started it all. Alec Guinness put a lot of emotion into Obi-Wan letting you see the hardships his character has gone through despite not being written yet. Han Solo was given one of the best character entrances of any character, displaying his personality efficiently.

6. Attack of the Clones

Obi-Wan's investigation and the battle on Geonosis are great sequences that are highly memorable. Plus this movie introduces the clones, my favorite part of Star Wars. However, the "love" story that keeps interrupting the investigation felt forced and keeps the good parts down.

7. Phantom Menace

My favorite moments were the battle of Naboo (minus Jar Jar) and the duel between Darth Maul and the two Jedi. Yes the movie gets boring at times, but my rose tinted glasses will always remind me of the good moments in this film.

8. Force Awakens

A good movie that shows a lot of love to Star Wars. The reason it's so low is cause of the large amounts of similarities to ANH and how Rey's character became in the later parts of the movie. Overall I still like the movie, but there are still a lot of little details I could nitpick to death.

9. Solo

It was ok. At worst it's unmemorable, at best it has a few scenes that were interesting. I liked the train heist and Solo's experience as an imperial trooper was cool, but at some points it felt as if the creative team was just trying to throw as much "coolness" onto the film to were it seems lackluster. The ending reveal of Maul felt like a waste and a way to fill the "show lightsaber" quota

10. Last Jedi

This is the only main Star Wars movie I dislike. While having a few cool scenes, they either didn't makes sense in universe or directly went against what was established. Many characters were wasted, for example Ackbar was killed of with barely an acknowledgement. Leia flying through space was dumb. Poe was constantly criticized for taking rational actions that either benefitted the Resistance, or were the best choices he knew of. The casino planet was a waste of time. Rey somehow got more powerful despite not being trained in anything. Visual consistencies were almost non existent with red guards having their weapons disappear mid fight or were just in the background fighting literally no one.

I don’t know if there’s a fancy literary word for it, but I actually really like that kind of story where you already know the tragic ending and the tension comes from dreading the moment when the stuff finally hits the fan. The problem is all in the execution, imo. That’s what a lot of the prequels ends up being for me; ideas and concepts I’d actually be really excited to see, just done so poorly that I don’t care anymore.
