That's a tough one. I can totally see both Johnny's (backed by SirG's further explanation) and A3n's take on that one ....
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Why would you check the power text on a card after the figure is destroyed and it (and the card) are out of play?
Because you want your figures back.
