The Book of Doc Samson
The Book of Doc Samson C3G MARVEL WAVE 52 CURTAIN CALL Comic PDF Mini PDF The figure used for this unit is a Heroclix figure from the Civil War Storyline set. Its model number and name are #012 / Doc Samson. _________________________________________________________________ Character Bio - After Bruce Banner was temporarily cured of being the Hulk by siphoning off the gamma radiation that caused his transformations, Dr. Leonard Samson (birth name Leonard Skivorski Jr.), who had been working with Banner/Hulk in his job as a psychiatrist, exposed himself to some of the siphoned radiation, granting him a superhumanly strong and muscular physique and causing his hair to turn green and to grow long, reminiscent of his biblical namesake. Shortly afterward, his flirting with Betty Ross causes a jealous Banner to re-expose himself to radiation, becoming the Hulk once more to battle Samson. Feeling guilty about his role in his patient's return to being the Hulk, Samson would spend much time working with Banner over the years. Re: The Book of Doc Samson (Pondering)
NAME = DOC SAMSON
SECRET IDENTITY = LEONARD SKIVORSKI JR. SPECIES = GAMMA MUTATE UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = AGENT PERSONALITY = SUPPORTIVE SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5 LIFE = 7 MOVE = 6 RANGE = 1 ATTACK = 6 DEFENSE = 5 POINTS = 290 THE DOC IS IN At the start of the game, choose a Unique Hero. That Unique Hero and all Unique Heroes that share an identity with it are Doc Samson’s Focus. After a Focus moves, if Doc Samson is not engaged, he may use his Super Leap special power to move up to the same number of spaces. ANGER MANAGEMENT When a Unique Hero adjacent to Doc Samson attacks, you may choose up to 1 die for each of the following that is true: • That Hero is a Gamma Mutate. • That Hero is Doc Samson’s Focus. All chosen dice must be rerolled once. SUPER LEAP 50 Instead of his normal move, Doc Samson may move up to 10 spaces with Super Leap. When moving with Super Leap, Doc Samson has the Flying special power, but may not move up or down more than 50 levels in a single leap. Doc Samson rolls 3 fewer attack dice on any turn that he chooses to Super Leap. SUPER STRENGTH Last edited by MrNobody; June 5th, 2022 at 08:18 AM. Reason: POINTS = 290 |

Re: The Book of Doc Samson (Pondering)
So this guy was in LCW ages ago, made a few changes since then, mainly to Anger Management but also modified Superhuman Counseling a little bit.
Gonna tag @LordVenoc here, since we were discussing the art of bringing a psychiatrist character into the game in the LCW. Personally, I feel like the design is pretty consistent with. how we've handled other "vocational" designs like Matt Murdock and Avengers She-Hulk - you definitely have to abstract a little bit. But I also think it's important to be more careful with mental health stuff than law stuff. I know we had concerns about the term Patient. Client works, but Leonard's interactions with the Hulk aren't always consensual on the Hulk's end. Anyways, hoping this new Anger Management works! |

Re: The Book of Doc Samson (Pondering)
Would Subject work for the tag thing? That feels fairly neutral and safe.
Bizarro II would make a pretty good Patient / Client / Subject, but that doesn't feel all that wrong My Repaints and Mods: Updated 1-13 My Custom Cards: Updated 4-15 My Custom Superheroes: Updated 1-13 My figure images for online games: Alliance figures, Utgar figures My Etsy Store |

Re: The Book of Doc Samson (Pondering)
So the weirdness is that it is blending the roles a bit and makes for a weird read when familiar with the field.
Psychology, Psychiatry, Social Work, and Counseling while all part of the mental health field are different in their approaches and how they handle thing. To walk through it: Quote:
So yeah, the weirdness is you have Counselor titles but psychologist/psychiatrist effects, with a little bit of just normal doctor sprinkled in. |

Re: The Book of Doc Samson (Pondering)
So responding to the stuff that isn't in blue, since Psychology/Psychiatry is the goal we're aiming for.
1) We can probably just change the name on the first power. Maybe 'The Doc Is In?' 2) We can also change the name on the second power, but 'Anger Management' just feels like the perfect fit here for a Hulk ally, so I'm hesitant. He definitely does (try to) help Bruce manage anger. 3) Samson uses a mix of calming techniques and his own super strength to keep whoever he's tussling with/assisting from getting too out of hand, so the -1 Attack feels good to me. 4) Healing wounds is obviously one of those slightly cheesy interpretations of a vocation I was talking about. He needs some way to use his psychoanalysis skills to boost his allies in a way that benefits the Hulk. Maybe he could somehow provide a more permanent attack boost? Idk, healing seemed like the most fun way to handle it. (And doesn't feel out-of-pocket within Hulk world. Samson has been able to do things like fuse Hulk and Bruce Banner's personalities, separate Hulk and Banner physically, etc. It's comic books, a mid-battle psychological breakthrough healing somebody doesn't feel that crazy IMO.) Something we're also just going to have to deal with is that, despite the character being referred to as a psychiatrist, he's really more of a psychoanalyst in practice. (And given these are Hulk comics, he's usually pretty into Freudian or Jungian pseudoscience.) Hard to get around that while being accurate to the character. |

Number 4 is the big thing. Physical healing plus reduction of attack is going to feel like medication induced like sedating pretty much every time. |

Re: The Book of Doc Samson (Pondering)
Maybe Superhuman Psychologist for the first power.
For the Anger Management, maybe a die reroll on attacks? Hulk isn't as pissed when he's around (-1 attack) but he's being more methodical with the hits because of Samson. Quote:

Re: The Book of Doc Samson (Pondering)
I actually like that a lot, Fresh! I might just simplify it down to this.

Idk, I could be down for either version! |

Dig that version you've got, I really like him being able to mess with opposing Gamma Mutates.
