This battle was fought between me and my girlfriend. We drafted 495 point armies and it was just a deathmatch. Last army standing wins. We played on this map I cooked up, symmetrical on both sides. The start zones are the dungeon spaces, although my army was so big it ended up being around that area, but not quite in the water yet.

That American Idiot's Army
-Tarn Viking Warriors
-Marro Drones x6
-Sahuagin Raider
-Adam Taurus
Girlfriend's Army
-Master of the Hunt
-Jotun
-Mezzodemon Warmongers x2
Let the battle begin:
Rumors had spread that the Marro were looking to expand their territory out of the swamp they occupied. Even a little ruined outpost in the forest could be built back up and create a dangerous guard tower giving the Marro a big advantage when it came to spotting incoming threats to the nearby swamp.
The Master of the Hunt wanted to make sure the Marro would never establish a watch tower outside of the swamp. His goal was to hunt the greatest prize of all, the Hive itself. It would be a big hinderance to him and his army if the Marro secured these ruins. He grabbed some of the toughest allies he could from his army and set out to protect the ruins. Hopefully the mere sight of the giant Jotun or the Mezzodemons would make the Marro scouting party run in fear. Unfortunately this was not the case.
Both armies arrived on opposite sides of the ruins at the same time. It was hard to see clearly through the trees and the few towers and wall that remained standing, but the Master of the Hunt could hear the Marro ahead. Without hesitation, Jotun took off running. He was heading straight for the Marro's party.
He raced to the ruins but found them empty. From there, however, he could see the Marro Drones across the river. There were so many of them, but he wasn't afraid of a few pesky drones. They didn't seem to notice him until he was right on top of them. A few tried fording the river, but Jotun cut them down before they reached the other shore. They knew where he was now as they scrambled to get away from his big sword.
Jotun crossed the river himself putting him at the edge of the group. The Sahuagin Raider leaped for the water to get an advantage, but he never made it as Jotun swung at him, as well as a few more drones, destroying all of them on the shore.
Jotun hadn't even noticed it wasn't just a party of Drones until he picked up a Viking. He looked at the human curiously wondering why it was helping the drones. That's when one of the Drones cut him across his leg. He let out a bellow of rage throwing the Viking to its death and crushing a few more drones in the process.
Things got bad for Jotun when Adam Taurus appeared next to him. He was quick and able to avoid any attacks Jotun threw his way. Thankfully, he was so focused on defense, he couldn't connect a good swing on Jotun either. Jotun eventually picked the extremist leader up, tossing him away. Adam had distracted Jotun enough, however. When he looked back down at the ground, he was surrounded by Drones. He was able to take a few more out, but the sheer numbers eventually overcame him and he fell.
Over half the Drones sent to secure the ruins were already dead. Their leader Adam hardly injured, and only two Vikings remained. They had no clue Jotun had a couple of friends and were met with a huge surprise to see the Master of the Hunt standing atop one of the towers when they reached the ruins. He struck Drones down one at a time as they scrambled to reach the ladder. A few would make it to the top and take a swing, but none were successful. Things were looking bad for them, but thankfully Adam was a strategist and used the Drones as a distraction to get in position. He stood near the base of the tower and sent a Moonslice up to the Master. It connected with the tower right underneath his feet. Not only a miss, but now the Master knew exactly what Adam was capable of.
The two brawled with each other. Adam sending Moonslices up, the Master sending javelins down. The mezzodemons saw this happening and two attempted to cross the river and help, but one Drone stopped them in their tracks while others continued climbing the ladder and taking swings at the Master of the Hunt.
Finally, the Master hit Adam with a mighty javelin, but this only made his Moonslice more powerful. Meanwhile, the Drone at the river hacked through the exoskeletons of the Warmongers as they scrambled to leave the river. As soon as they did, however, they cut the Drone down where he stood. They raced to the ruins just to see the Master of the Hunt's body fall from the tower. One of Adam's Moonslices was a direct hit. While he celebrated, he failed to see the Mezzodemons take a stand in the middle of the ruin, and he was struck down quickly with a throw of their tridents.
The battle had a lot of loses, but eight soldiers remained. The fate of the fort would come down to the two Drones, the two Vikings, and the four Mezzodemons that remained.
A Drone quickly slid down the ladder and rushed the Mezzodemon that just killed Adam. It cut him down quickly. Another Mezzodemon tried crossing the river, but met the other Drone. After a quick skirmish, the Warmonger sank to the bottom of the river. Both Drones were taken down at the same time. The one missed the Warmonger climbing the ladder until it was too late. The Mezzodemon stood on top the ruined tower triumphantly. He rained a trident down killing one Drone as the other Mezzodemon threw its spear across the river, connecting with the remaining Drone. All that was left were two Mezzodemons and two Vikings.
The Vikings, watching from just outside the ruined center as their comrades fell, knew they couldn't take the Mezzodemon standing on the tower just yet. They needed to deal with the one across the river and in the forest first. In a blind rage, the two Viking's charged across the battlefield, covering an immense amount of ground in seconds. The Mezzodemon in the forest was shocked to see two swords come at it at the same time. One from the front, the other from the back. Its dead body lay flat behind the trees.
The Vikings felt great after that surprise attack and charged the tower. This time, their fatigue from the last sprint caught up to them as they reached the base of the tower. The Warmonger pierced one of them there, and the other as it climbed the ladder. A lone Mezzodemon Warmonger stood triumphant. The Marro weren't capturing this outpost anytime soon.
My thoughts:
This was an insanely close battle! I was not expecting my girlfriend to charge into my start zone with Jotun, and it worked out for her great. I believe Jotun took out 13 Drones, the Raider, two Vikings, and did two wounds to Adam before I could take him out. And with me so occupied with that threat, the Master of the Hunt was able to safely reach the top of tower right as the rest of my army arrived there. Thankfully I was able to safely cut through the exoskeletons of the warmongers as my girlfriend left them defenseless for one turn, putting all of her order markers on The Master hoping to do a ton of damage from there. One of my drones slipped through however and her mezzodemons paid the price. It was also really insane that both our remaining heroes got taken out on back to back turns. Adam slayed the Master just to get taken out himself directly after. Finally, when it came to just two Vikings vs two Warmongers, I rolled successfully for Berserker Charge four times in a row. Each of them moved a total of 20 meaning I was able to reach the Mezzodemon close to her spawn and cut it down before it even had a turn to react. Sadly though, they did not have the same luck when it came to trying to scale that tower to take the last Warmonger out. Oh well, this was an extremely fun game to play. I'm still shocked how close it came.
