HI Craig,.
Would you mind offering your opinion on whether or not double spaced figures must be facing figures for clear line of sight? Some believe that double spaced figures can see behind their head as long as their own body isn't blocking them while others believe that double spaced figures only have clear line of sight when they are facing their opponent. We have a thread discussing this topic here. Thanks!

Re: Craig Van Ness Q&A Thread

Hi Craig,

Have had my Heroscape collection from my time in elementary school, over 10 years ago. I can't thank you enough for having created a game that even today stands the test of time as one of the best board games ever made (and who can't forget the memories of killing my dad's Deathwalker 9000 with my Syvarris and watching him shout in frustration ).

1. Heroscape began as Utgar and Einar, against Ullar and Jandar, with Vydar helping both sides. This however quickly changed to Utgar versus all the other Valkyrie Generals. Why the sudden change in alliances? Was it simply for the sake of story?

2. One of the more controversial decisions, back when Swarm of the Marro was to be released, was when Major Q10 was shown to have certain emotions which were "unusual" for a robot, considering that his predecessor Major Q9 was basically shown to be an unemotional killing machine. Would you redo Major Q10 and his implication in the story of SoTM?

3. In the beginning, Heroscape put Jandar and Utgar front and centre as the main Valkyrie generals in the war. However, as expansion waves were released and the story changed, generals such as Ullar and Einar began to have bigger armies than Jandar. Was this because there was no particular story line to follow, and therefore Jandar was not considered as important to the game as he was at the beginning?

Re: Craig Van Ness Q&A Thread

Craig and Jeff,

Just a note to say we're reopening here in Brooklyn, NYC to continue Scaping with the New York City Gang of Four. Jeff has been over to play with us (Craig couldn't make it that day) and also showcase your new company's first game. Now after 13 years of monthly Scaping with very few breaks, and then a year in Pandemic Lockdown, we're finally getting back in business on Wednesday April 28, 2021 here at noon, with everyone attending vaccinated. After that we'll be playing monthly again. You can see the latest dates and goings on here by using the link in my signature line below, or PM me any time.

For this new session, we'll be bringing 600 Point armies, each including at least one of the 20 new C3V custom figures that were developed during the last year. You can see a list of them on our thread, and their cards in the C3V section of the site. If you are up for a game, you're always welcome to visit (or return here for Jeff) for Scaping with us on one of our giant group battlefields, in free-for-alls or team games of almost every possible shape and size. And I've got all the brand new cards printed out here for your gaming pleasure!

Game on, guys!

Hi EricTheGeat1999,
Thanks for the kind words. The fall of Deathwalker 9000 is always fun!

Answers-
1. I don't recall Einar teaming up with Utgar. Vydar joined Jandor, Ullar and Einar because of what Utgar's army was doing to his land. Check out Journal Entry #27.

2. I wouldn't change Q10. Vydar shifted, so his visions shifted to select robots that would better fit his current army.

3. When selecting generals, each general has certain tendencies. For example, Einar has a tendency to recruit military units.

Re: Craig Van Ness Q&A Thread

Ya know ... the 20th Anniversary of Heroscape is coming up in a couple years. Maybe we should start making plans now for the big event. But not in this thread, of course.

Re: Craig Van Ness Q&A Thread

Then again, some of us never left; only pausing our local monthly games for the Pandemic in the last 15 years, and now are playing once again (see signature line)! Jeff has been here to play, and he and Craig, and You Too Out There Whoever You Are, are always welcome to drop by here in NYC any month you choose.

Re: Craig Van Ness Q&A Thread

Why would we leave?

C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.
