If You Like... (Musical Recommendations)
I love finding new bands that I might like. Since I found Pandora, I've listened to almost nothing else (pandora.com). So I thought some recommendations would be cool, like this:
If you like... Dropkick Murphys You might also like... Flogging Molly Gogol Bordello If you like... Sex Pistols You might also like... The Buzzcocks Now you try! |

My posts on this thread will tend to follow the formula: If you like <semi-obscure band>, you may like <obscure band>
So I think I'll change to a quick description of the sound followed by the recommendation: If you like dirty blues, swamp boogie, laced with the most kick-ass nuance that the word ballad can convey you may like (but should love) Hugo Race and the True Spirit (or any other project he's involved in.) I know there's a few aussies here - heard of him? And for good measure - hooray music threads And you can see her Before it cracks and goes out She throws rocks at streetlights Keeps the streetlight changer busy Floundering Customs Thread |

If you like a nasal delivery accompanied by "the end is nigh" intensely earnest strumming cataloguing the small heartbreaks which at the end of the day have accumulated into ugly, ugly harbingers, you may like the Mountain Goats.

I think it was on a thread on HQ that I got to talking a little about DeVotchka - I read this morning that they are doing the soundtrack to the movie "Little Miss Sunshine" (that I had looked forward to seeing anyway - Greg Kinnear and Steve Carrell.)
So to fit into this thread, and riff off of Imax: If you like Gogol Bordello, but can also appreciate your drama a little more mellow, you might also like DeVotchka. And I do. I checked out the Devotchka site. I have to be impressed with the fact that their music starts playing as soon as you get to the site - you don't even have to look for samples.
It's a little soft for me, but it is very nice music. To keep in the spirit: If you like Devotchka, you might like The Pogues. |

Actually, the first time I saw Devotchka, was opening for Shane MacGowan at the Boulder Theater. And, Imax, I would've guessed that that would be your reaction to DeVotchka, but gave it a shot anyway. I do (or at one time did) enormously enjoy the music of most any artist I've seen you mention.
