I hope you guys enjoy the battle reports, I knew I enjoyed living them! As I add new ones, I'll "archive" the old ones with spoiler action. If I remember to take pictures, I'll post them, but usually our HS nights are sporadic events
If you guys would like to hear the Draft order in the future, I'll keep track of that as well.
In my Heroscape circle there are 4 players which play a few accepted game types (Of which I'll explain more as I post additional reports):
* 4 player round-robin (or bracketed) 1v1 games,
* 2 vs 2 Stand-Alone Army,
* 2 vs 2 Shared Army.
1vs1 Tournament Set up:
Spoiler Alert!
2 Identical Maps are set up for the draft to be agreed upon by the players before the draft begins
We begin by rolling a 20 sided dice to see if Marvel characters are used, if a 15 or higher is rolled, they may be drafted.
We roll another 20 sided dice to add to a 500 base point total, giving us our final tally of draft points.
Each player rolls a 20 sided dice to determine draft order, and we proceed in a (fairly) standard drafting procedure
p1:1-----2-----2
p2:-1---1-1---1-
p3:--1-1---1-1--
p4:---2-----2---
And So on.
The Draft rules are:
1. Uniques are Unique; though we have multiple copies of say, Raelin RotV, Only 1 may be drafted by any team
2. Must Draft; No passing your turns
3. There are no guarantees, Just because you've started a theme army, doesn't mean others can't (or won't) draft figures out from under you.
4. 10 Minute Limit - Rare, but after 10 minutes we call "Time" and you have 30 additional seconds before the majority picks for you...and it's usually something awful.
2 sets of Shields (usually 1 and 2) are drawn randomly by the players to determine play order, and depending on the night we may either do a Bracket (double elimination), or Round Robin point based set up.
2v2 "Thick Wool" Event at 560 points - 5/17/2010
Spoiler Alert!
This event took place sort of Late, and the Army drafting was almost more intense than the game itself.
Team 1a (in draft order w/ First Pick.):
1.Raelin 80
2.Krav 180
2.Rats x1 220
3.Nilf 405
3.Brunak 515
4.Fire Elemental 550
4.Otonashi 560
Team 1b
1.Captain America 220
2.2.Rats x2 300
3.3.4th Mass x2 440
4.Fen Hydra 560
I'll be posting the Map as soon as I figure out how my new smart phone transfers pictures to my computer, including some interesting shots.
Noteworthy Objects: There are two Glyphs in the very center of the board separated by a small bit of water. the Glyphs started sunny side up being Thorian Speed, and +1 Defense.
The match begins with team 1's Brunak carrying Raelin and placing her in a great defensible position Team 2 moves up Eldgrim who Overextends and Grabs the thorian speed glyph, Finn moves up with him and Grabs a high ground location. Hydra moves up to get a closer look at what's going down. Captain America stands next to Raelin and throws his shield at Eldgrim making him a Grim Eld and his Spirit haunts Chomp. Zetacron steps up, and so does Q10, throwing a elevated attack on a Krav maga, who manages to roll 1 shield and block it all like the jerks they are. Krav retaliate by Wounding Finn with the Tactician bonus, then the 4th Mass come up and send Finn's Spirit off to Whisper tales of Revenge into Cyprien's ears.
The Next Round was pivotal. Team 1 was in a solid Pod with Defense Boosted Krav Maga Agents, Tactician boosted. Additionally, they had a Hydra nearby, Brunak in the wings, and the 4th Mass with 2 Tactician boosted Elevated positions.
Team 2b wins Initiative and Moves Braxas up just out of Boosted Krav Maga range within 1 turn of landing a defense glyph within 4 spaces of all the Krav, Captain America, Raelin, and the rest of the Gang. Team 1 moves up Brunak with the Fire Elemental and landed on the Thorian speed glyph placing the fire elemental next to him blocking a the chokepoint leaving Water the only way around them. Blade Gruts and Chomp get started moving and throw an attack of 2 on Brunak who shrugs it off easily with Raelin's Aura. 4th Mass move up and kill a Blade Grut and deal no damage to Braxas, which really seemed to **** her off, as She moves up and barfs all over the Krav Maga, killing 2 and Failing to breath Captain. The remaining Krav Maga runs up to Elevation dropping an attack of 3 on Braxas, inflicting 1 wound. Seeing his time to shine, Chomp runs over the water past Brunak doding a disengagement swipe and thanks to Eldgrim's movement, ends his movement right next to Captain America.
CHOMP.
Immediately the momentum is in team 2's favor as the Tactician in all of his Counterstrike Glory was removed dealing a hefty blow with the 20sided die. The 4th Mass respond by Murdering Chomp in 1 turn with some Beefy wait then fire attacks and landing 1 wound on Q10. Braxas gets to move again, and follows the Krav, going 2 for 3 removing a Krav, and a 4th. Team 1a loses an Order Marker on the dead Krav, and Blade gruts move forward keeping the sides of the map in check. Order Marker 3 was cleverly placed on the Hydra, Going after the Elevated Braxas dealing >>6<< wounds. leaving her at 1 and ending the round.
The next round begins with Nilf flying over to try to finish Braxas before the Hydra can, but fails to kill her, Q10 moves up for some wrist rocket action, but fails to get any kills...yet. Cyprien moves up and Chill touches Brunak for 2, while failing to wound the final HP with his 2 skull attack of 4. Nilfheim moves over and throws fails to wound Cyprien, while taking out 1 Blade grut with rolling blanks on the other. Q10 goes bananas; b.a.n.a.n.a.s and drops 2-3skull wrist rocket attacks on a Raelin Boosted Nilf, dealing 5 Damage total. Hydra inches to the center, and Cyprien flys in the for the chilling kill on Nilf, Sonya is so proud during all of this.
Team 1's final gambit came in the hands of the Full health Hydra, with Ample 4th Mass in the background. The Hydra moves up to the Defense Glyph, in a great position for his next OM to deliver a murderous 4 attacks to Cyprien. Unfortunatly Cyprien had other plans and delivers 3 wounds via chilling touch, and kills the remainder of the Hydra with a 3 skull of 4 roll. Brunak engages Q10, Cyprien, and a Blade Grut and prepares to drop the Grut with his Blood Hungry attack...and rolls all duds, Q10 goes next, backs up from Brunak (taking a disengage) and notices the 4th Mass in position to drop 3 elevated and 1 non-elevated WTF attacks on Cyprien. Whips out his Pistols...and rolls 3 sets of Blanks, and 1 set of 2 skulls which is Miraculously Defended by a 2 Shield roll on a non-valiant 4th Mass.
The 4th Mass Unload on Cyprien dealing 3 wounds, which Cyprien heals 1 of by kill Brunak. Q10 grabs the Thorian Speed and Wrist Rockets a 4th Mass, but only rolls 1 sets of 1's which are defended. the 4th must move up now to get 4 attacks on Cyprien (only had 2 attacks available for WTF), so they move up and fire on the Vampire lord, dealing 1 wound. Cyprien goes and picks off a far 4th Mass, healing 1. Q9 Moves up.
At this point Team 1b says, "don't worry about it fellas, we have a chance, those minutemen have some really 'thick wool'", said with a big grin.
Fire Elemental goes first, and kills Q10, Q9 moves up and kills a 4th Mass (bringing them down to 4). and Cyprien weathers 3 attacks from the 4th Mass (who were actually in a line like they should be). Cyprien flys over to the Thorian Speed and fails to kill the Fire Elemental. Q9 moves up and kills 1 of the 4th Mass, and Cyprien does 6 wounds via an 18 Chill touch roll on the Fire Elemental. Team 1 Concedes, but not before inflicting 1 wound on Q9 via 4th Mass fire.
Interesting Notes Team2: Isamu Unmoved, Zetacron fired nothing, Sonya did nothing. 2a used every single character on the board at one point.
-----ARCHIVE-----
1v1 Mini-Tourny 4/15/2010
Spoiler Alert!
Point Total - 590
Map Description -
We were all very tired, so we made it SUPER basic, as seen above
Army Fielded -
Raelin SotM 120
Finn 200
Theracus 240
Thorgrim 320
KoW x2 460 (I would have done more, but we only have 2 copies)
Sharwin Wildborn 570
Marcu Esenwein 590
Centerpiece - Sharwin Wildborn, it was time to see if she could compete in a 1v1 setting.
My opponent here drafted this army just to counter my army (he was still salty from the 4/9/2010 Tournament.
This match was barely a game, FaT bomb first round inflicts no wounds on Q9 (he was the only open character to attack), Rats begin infestation. Moving up the Knights of Weston activating Finn to attack getting nothing done, I switched to Sharwin, but Arcane Bolt is too weak to penetrate the Rats 4 defense. Rats tie up all figures, then the Hydras went to work.
Notable Events - Finn and Thorgrim spirits on Sharwin, she inflicted 0 wounds with Arcane Bolt, and 0 Wounds with Shocking Grasp and 3 attack dice. She did counterstrike 2 heads off a hydra though (5 defense from Thorgrim Spirit and SotM Raelin).
Opponent Lost: 3 Rats and 2 wounds on a Hydra.
0-1
Fight #2 Marro Swarm
Spoiler Alert!
Cyprien Esenwein 150
Marro Hive 310
Marro Stingers x2 430 (would have drafted more, only have 2 sets atm)
Marro Drones x3 580
Isamu 590
The game begins with him Rolling 13, and moving 6 Marro Drones, he spreads them out to avoid my imminent Arcane Bolt. So instead I engage Sharwin with a Drone and with a little help from shocking grasp, take it out. He responds with More drones, rolling a 13 (respawning the drone) then rolling another 13 and activating 6 Drones, attacking Sharwin and Inflicting two wounds due to my awful Defense dice. Sharwin Responds by Arcane Bolting 2 of the surrounding Drones, which apparently pissed them off, as they go on the final OM of round 1 and kill Sharwin with again, terrible defensive dice rolls (Sharwin had 4 defense from SotM Raelin Range). OM 3 Lost by me.
Round two was a slaughter festival, as the Knights of Weston + Finn now all being in range of Drones galore go on a tirade and Eliminate 4, while only suffering 1 loss, and 2 wounds on Thorgrim. The Knights and the Drones fight around the Large Ruin's Highground area for a short while before he Moves up his Stingers and begin to thin out my squad a bit, losing 2 more Knights as I respond by killing all but 1 Drone. Marcu moves up into his Start zone and drops a on Cyprien, who defends 2. and the Knight Advance. I thin out 3 Stingers, he revives 1, Knights hold the line.
At this point my Thorgrim and a couple knights have just gone berserk and are in his start zone 1 Knight inflicting 2 wounds on the Hive, he begins the Cyprien show and flies him around the map, failing to chill touch any Knights this round, but killing 1 naturally (healing to full). He then tries to kill my sleeping Raelin, but fails to wound with a 3 on the D20, and a vs a roll.
I disengage my SotM Raelin and place her in the nook of the Large ruins, being highground guarded by Finn and two knights with Thorgrim between the ruins, two knights about to lay some hurt on his hive, and a sleeping Theracus I'm feeling hopeful versus his Full Life Cyprien, Isamu, 1 Stinger, and Hive-2.
the round ends with my killing his final Marro Drones and Stingers, leaving his Hive has a OM sink if he ever wants to use it again. He starts the round with a surprise move from Isamu which inflicts 4 wounds on Raelin, he slinks away from an attack by Finn as my knights work to consolidate themselves in a good spot to attack Cyprien. Vampire kills Theracus outright with a 3 skull roll vs duds defense. As a result of that a Knight gets to move up and swing at Cyprien, adding 2 wounds while simultaneously killing the hive on that turn with my distant knight, Cyprien Fails to kill him in response, and I get to attack back with Finn and that Knight, adding 2 more wounds. Cyprien Kills the knight (another failed chill touch), and Finn adds the wound right back. Isamu finishes what he started with Raelin, depriving me of my Defense aura, which finishes the round.
I win initiative, and spread out my Knights to be able to react to Cyprien's next move, during the spread out process I managed to finally land a wound on that supremely undervalued Red Ninja bastard. Cyp moves in for a Knight kill, and succeeds (still no chill touch) bringing his life back up to 3. Thorgrim and Two knights are done taking Guff from ole Coldy and drop him with some super hot attack rolls to finish the game.
1-1
and that was the end of the Mini tourney
Synopsis: Unless you're feeling very attuned with your dice rolls, or facing Orcs / Ashigaru / Venoc army, I'd recommend staying away from Sharwin. Not enough bang for the buck.
1v1 Tournament - 4/9/2010
Spoiler Alert!
Point Total - 630
Map Description - Very Flat with 2 "Hills" in the middle, 4 elevation was the max height on the map, with a few water spaces separating the hills from the start zone creating a natural choke point between the hills.
Army Fielded (In Order I drafted)-
Raelin v1 80
Crixus 170
Capuan Gladiators x3 380
Drow Chainfighter x2 430
Spartacus 630
Note: The Television Show Spartacus was on in the other room so I was "Inspired" to draft the Gladiators. It was their first showing in our Tournament games.
Fight #1 - vs. Dragon and Lizard Army
Spoiler Alert!
Charos 210
Nilfheim 395
GW x3 575
Sonya Esenwein 620 (Stolen from a complacent Cyp drafter)
Isamu 630
the Match went with a predictable opening, He chose to bond his Lizards with Charos and sent them for a B-Line directly toward my gladiators, I perched Raelin up on the highest elevated spot, and then moved out my Drow Chain fighters, which proceeded to pull 2 GW away from their king, and killing them while placing a good roadblock for his advancing lizards. After those kills 1 Drow died immediately, and the next survived for a short 2 OM's later. The Next round began the steamroll movement.
Crixus and 3 gladiators moved up to form a line just out of reach of Elevation, 1 attack was possible, but it was versus an elevated Charos...No thanks. Charos and the lizards moved on to kill the remaining Drow Chainfighter, who was tying up his lizardmen and Charos, however with Raelin's Aura he absorbed all 4 attacks (Hiding from 2). Crixus and gladiators killed 3 Lizard men on the next turn, leaving my opponent a little miffed, but he still had 9 life Charos and felt pretty confident.
Moving away from my Chainfighter Charos took 1 wound from a disengagement, and swung at Crixus with a 3 skull roll. Crixus Rolled 1 shield and took 1 (OSD!). The Lizard Men finally killed the Drow Chain fighter this round, but glads would not be undone, they inflicted 7 more wounds on Charos on that turn with a beastly (inflicting 3) from Crixus, gladiators seemed to do the trick versus Charos. Next turn Charos answered back with another swing on Crix for 1 wound, and killing 2 gladiators, but the Green Meanie would go down soon thereafter, leaving his lizardmen demoralized and frail.
The rest of the Match was a pretty quick cleanup, Nilf took down 3 gladiators, and wounded 2 on Raelin, but with more than full remaining set of gladiators, 3 life Crixus, and full life Spartacus. Far too much for the tricky ninja Isamu to handle, It was over.
1-0
Fight #2 - A Tale of a Vampire and a Major
Spoiler Alert!
Major Q9 180
Cyprien 330
Krav 430
Stingers x2 550
Fire Elemental x2 620
Otonashi 630
He opened with Stinger Rush, I opened standard with Raelin and 2 Drow Chain fighters maneuver. I pulled in 2 stingers and got 2 kills, and he killed both Chain fighters. The remainder of the round was the Stingers firing at Raelin (and blowing up once!) inflicting 3 wounds on her and Killing 2 gladiators. The Gladiators rolled through, killing all but 1 stinger. I won Initiative and noticed I had 1 gladitor and Crixus in range of Q9, so I dropped a 4 skull roll on him and he took 2. Q9 answered with 2 wound on Crix and it was a back and forth for awhile, Crixus engaged with 1 Krav Maga, Q9 and Cyprien.
The Gladiators kept pounding away at Q9 but his thick futuristic armors was too much for the Gladiators and withheld many many attacks. Cyprien Eventually rolled an 18 on Crixus ending his reign, allowing Spartacus to begin his trek to the battle, However the Capuan's honored their fallen commander with the head of the giant robot, Q9 finally went down as Crixus died. Cyprien killed 1 more gladiator, with the final move of Spartacus moving up as far as possible which set the stage for a very important shift.
Round 3 started and I noticed his shield placement included the Fire Elementals (of which he had 2) and they were in a great position to drop an attack of 4 on Spartacus and Fire up 3(!) Gladiators. So Instead of attacking Cyp, I was able to move up Spartacus to kill 1, and 2 gladiators to kill the other Fire Elemental, depriving him of his Order marker, and allowing Spartacus to drop a 4 wound attack on Cyprien, with the Gladiators adding on 1 more bringing the mighty vampire down to 1. Cyprien killed 1 more gladiator and attempted to run away and snipe out Raelin, but with that failure and failing to Chill touch Spartacus, the Undead Lord went down that round. The Gladiators Cleaned up Cyp, Otonashi, and 2 Krav.
The remainder of combat was a brief cleanup period, leaving me with Full life Spartacus, 2 life Raelin, and 3 Gladiators total.
Final match of the night, the pressure was on, we were all impressed with the Resilience of the Steamroller with Raelin, with their inherent offensive might.
He opened with a double rat move, I opened with double chain fighter and Raelin. However his double rat move brought them all the way into my start zone after a couple scatters due to chainfighter attacks. Raelin was not able to get into a good position, but she did manage to kill a rat while keeping all of my army in her aura. Marro Warriors move up.
Next round was Taelord moving onto a high ground location and Marro warriors getting onto height and dropping the chain fighters and 2 gladiators. I moved Raelin into a "final" position, giving up Inspiration for the round, but providing my army a good area to which they can benefit from the extra defense. 2 Rats went down 2 Warriors go down, 1 Gladiator went down, and 2 Wounds on Raelin from a 2 skull throwing Zetacron.
Round three, the Pain begun. He moves up his Hydra and with 4 attacks of 5 Easily dispatches a Gladiator as he moves into a good position to hit multiple gladiators on his next OM. I move up 1 Gladiator to block his move (essentially sacrificing him) and his Crixus and the rest of the gladiators to clear 2 more rats out of my way. Next round the Hydra jumps onto elevation doing 2 things, blocking my path to Taelord, and giving him a beautiful area to his Crixus and 2 more Glads. Thankfully, my 2 Gladiators were in the way sparing Crixus more lives, and Raelin's Aura saved 1 attacks from getting through, but both Capuans go down to the combined 4 attacks of 6 and Crixus takes 1. My next move was one of the more risky moves in the game.
Instead of dealing with the hydra on height (in Tae aura) with combined fire from Crixus and the glads, I disengage from a rat and move Crixus and 1 un-tied up gladiator toward the opposite edge of the map to flank his sleeping army, sending 2 gladiators towards the hydra, one in his face, the other guarding Crixus' back So the hydra couldn't reach him. Hydra cleans up the glad in his face and Crixus makes a charge to the second sleeping Hydra, and delivers a devastating 2 wounds with the trailing Gladiator delivering 1 additional cutting his backup Hydra's output by 75%. He moves his full life Hydra up and Murders Crixus. The next move I move up Spartacus, and have a very lucky round, Killing Zetacron, killing the wounded hydra, and landing a wound on his fresh hydra.
He finished up my Gladiator, leaving me with 4 remaining, and went for Raelin with his Hydra. Raelin goes down to Hydra damage leading to the hydra being tied down by a Glad, but the game changer occurs right afterward, instead of preserving Spartacus, I charge him right into the Hydra, knowing that if this attack fails, the hydra would have enough more for 3 attacks of 6 (elevated) on my full life Spartacus. Thankfully my gambit pays off and drops another 2 hitpoints on the hydra, leaving him at 1. The hydra deals 1 wound to Spartacus, to which the gladiator leader repays him in kind, leaving my opponents army in an offensive rut with nothing but a broken squad of Marro Warriors, and rats. The remainder of the game was cleaning up Taelord, the Warriors, and the rats. Marcu came out killing 1, but Spartacus put a quick dent in him, ending the game and the night.
3-0
Results:
Spoiler Alert!
The Dice went back and forth, but I tended to get them when I needed them:
Synopsis: The Steamroller is Nasty with Raelin, Nastier still with a flat map, and just silly when the map is small to boot.
Final Result: 3-0
Other Army Finals:
Taelord's Crew: 0-3
Dragons 1-1 (he had to leave before the final match between him and the team Vamp)
Major Vampire: 1-1
Comments, Suggestions for future post format, and Criticisms are welcome.
That sound goods and similar to what I have played in draft rules, except we count Raelin and Drake as two different draftable figs.
In 2 vs. 2, we usually do where each person has his/her own army and each draft to the agreed point max but they can donate up to 50 draft points to teammate when drafting as to make full use of points. I usually do a 450 or 500 + 5 times a 20-d roll to mix up point totals. For example, if we start with 500, and roll a 8, there is 540 points per player, but more like 1080 point per team and each player can draft 490-590, depending on how generous teammates can be on donating points.
I see you are in Cleveland - I am too, maybe I could join in the fun. Let me know when and where you guys play or if you want to stop by my place (I live by CWRU) let em know too.
