Original Music by Rednax
Hey everyone. Long time no see.
I realize I haven't been active on this site in over a year, but I do peak my head in every once in a while to see how everything's going. But part of the reason I haven't been on as much lately is because I've taken on a side project of composing as of late. Here's a couple songs of written. The first is just a computer recording without real instruments. The second, however, is obviously with real instruments. Demo Coffee House I'm the one on synthesizer. Thanks for checking out my music. |

Re: Original Music by Rednax
Fun piece, and I can tell you had fun writing it!
Personally (and I mean this as constructive criticism) I think the instrument choice could be a bit more unified. Maybe try replacing the sax with a woodwind - clarinet or maybe flute might work. As it is, the sax and strings don't sound like they're complimenting each other very well. Was the synth set to an accordion-like sound? I feel like I heard an accordion in there somewhere. Again (and maybe it's just me) I thought it sounded out of place. Not sure what you could do about that. Maybe try playing it on a piano. Otherwise it was a fun piece to listen to. Do you specialize in jazz composition? |

Re: Original Music by Rednax
Sax actually is a woodwind.
But yes, I recognize these are very strange ensembles. That's partially a result of my style of writing, and partially a result of what instruments my friends knew how to play. I think in a video where you could hear the strings more, it might sound more in sync. I was just playing piano set to synthesizer. I suppose it sounds somewhat accordion like, but it was really just a synth. As for my specialization, I don't consider myself a specialist in jazz. I almost never listen to jazz. For fun, I primarily listen to pop/rock/musical theatre. However, both of the above songs are songs that (I think at least) make people want to dance. I tend to gravitate to songs like that, although I'm writing a couple other songs right now that aren't jazz at all. One's a power ballad, another is symphonic rock, and another sounds very electronic. Thanks for your input Scaper! |
