Spoiler Alert!
_________________________________________________________________ Character Bio - "One of the most powerful known mystical entities within the Marvel Universe, Dormammu is acknowledged by Doctor Strange as his 'most terrible foe'; a threat to 'the life of the universe itself', that 'at full power no one could stand against.' The character is an inter-dimensional entity composed of mystical energy that can be used to achieve almost any effect he desires, including: energy projection, matter manipulation, resizing, teleportation, possession; necromancy, bestowing of power, and creating demon lords. In certain instances Dormammu has been displayed approaching a universal, or even multiversal, scale of influence. Dormammu is apparently stronger in the Dark Dimension, being empowered by the worship of his followers, and can draw upon its power. The character has been shown to have one significant weakness: being vulnerable in environments that cannot fuel his mystical Faltine flames." Re: Dormammu - Breathing Period
DORMAMMU
DEMON EVENT HERO HELL LORD MALEVOLENT HUGE 19 LIFE 9 MOVE 6 RANGE 6 ATTACK 6 DEFENSE 6 POINTS 665 FROM THE DARK DIMENSION Dormammu starts the game with his figure and nine Wound Markers on this card. While Dormammu is on this card and has not been destroyed, if you reveal a numbered Order Marker on this card, you may choose any other figure and roll one unblockable attack die against the chosen figure. RITUAL SUMMONING If Dormammu is on this card and has not been destroyed, each time a figure on the battlefield receives one or more wounds, remove the same number of Wound Markers from this card. Immediately after the turn in which the last Wound Marker is removed from this card, place Dormammu on any empty spaces on the battlefield. ELDRITCH EMPOWERMENT While Dormammu is in your army and not destroyed, all Heroes you control with the Magical Defense special power add 1 to their Attack numbers for each unrevealed Order Marker on this card and when one of those figures attacks with its normal attack and does not inflict any wounds, it receives one wound. MAGICAL DEFENSE When Dormammu is attacked by an opponent’s figure that does not have the Magical Defense special power, the most wounds Dormammu can take for this attack is one. SUPER STRENGTH FLYING C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: Dormammu - Breathing Period
All right, here's where I landed:
Quote:
1. Leftbox and Stats: I lowered the life to 12 (when I put 12 life and 8 defense together in the Heroscape points estimator I only got to 645). I'll continue to drop it if testing shows a need. I also put the cost at exactly 666 points, because johnny knows I can't resist things like that. 2. Trapped in the Dark Dimension: Per Soundwarp's suggestion, I removed unnecessary language about being able to place and reveal Order Markers. Good call - thanks for that one! 3. Eldrich Empowerment: This got worked over pretty well in Last Chance Workshop (mostly by Ronin) so we were already good there. No changes. 4. Ritual Summoning: Some big changes here. I started by just going with dok's changes and then got annoyed that it was just a bit much in terms of complexity. I decided I'd like to streamline it a tad more and I'm happy with how it's looking. The trigger is a bit more intensive now (you have to do two or more wounds in a single attack). This is both to represent the amount of blood needed for this ritual (theme!) and to help prevent you from just loading up on squads and multi-attackers with him. You need big attacks, which probably means you want to use Eldrich Empowerment to its fullest. Given that last point, I dropped dok's Magical Defense bonus, as I figure you're already encouraged on that front. With the different trigger, I also dropped the wound bonus and made it a straight up round bonus. You can still go Round one, but only if you hit that 20. If this proves to be too difficult, I'll just drop the number you need to roll a bit. I like this simplified version though, as I still think it hits all the thematic notes I want and works well mechanically as well. It also does the whole turn order thing with more clarity per Soundwarp's initial note and dok's wording. Thanks, guys! 5. Everything else is the same for now. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: Dormammu - Breathing Period
OK, this is one I think I'm going to have to do a lot of actual play with before I get to the point where I can do an initial for points (especially if I have the goal of getting him to a specific point total, which is always more challenging).
I played a quick test just now with the Original X-Men versus Mordu, Leech, the Hypnotize spell, and Dormammu. After 6 failed attempts to summon him, Dormammu was stuck in the Dark Dimension and everyone else failed. I choose Leech not for the match up, but because he has 4 life at 40 points. Yeah, I hit him twice (got very lucky on the 2 wound requirement) for two of the six rolls. I get 3 rounds in before Mordu just couldn't hold up, which felt lucky on my part on a small map. Closest I ever got on the D20 was 15 (12 + 3 for rounds). The Eldrich Empowerment was pretty nice and Mordu only failed once while boosted by it (which made him die faster) and Mordu never hurt himself from his own boost, so this could've been a lot uglier. The boost at least helped Mordu stay competitive while so outnumbered and I loved the theme of Dormammu reaching into this dimension to help but not quite being able to make his way in. That's all good. That said, I want him to be worth drafting and I want a figure that big and beautiful to actually get on the battlefield more often than not! So here are some suggested tweaks: Quote:

Re: Dormammu - Breathing Period
Comic:
Figure: Background: I think an eventual "Faltine Flames" spell might be a cool addition to him. I went with fairly low life here for a couple of reasons: 1. He's not really at his full power outside of the Dark Dimension 2. I didn't want him to cost so much that you couldn't put an army on the battlefield around him. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Yeah, I think the slightly lower Life is a smart move.
Excited to see this guy under way. |

And for any CRB concerns (I'd be surprised, since Event Heroes usually just price out of those, but, hey ....): @dok @Dysole @Soundwarp SG-1 Thanks, all. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: Dormammu - Breathing Period
My only gripe is the round number thing...I typically don't track rounds and think that powers that do tend to be only useful in really high point games...which I don't play a ton of. Could we possibly try letting the modifier be figures destroyed?
"add one to the roll for each wound you inflict during this attack and add one for each figure destroyed." Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those. |
