Heroscapers Secret Santa 2009

Last year was a blast! It probably seems too early to think about Christmas - but it's not! I think everyone had a great time and I'd like to see it happen again. With Onion Knight's blessing, I'm taking the reigns this year and will coordinate Heroscapers Secret Santa 2009.

The Rules

If you want to participate, here's how it works:

• Send me your name, shipping address, and a wish list by Noon CST on November 25th. I'll keep a running tally in this thread about who is participating.
• On Thanksgiving, I'll pair each member up with another random participant. I will then PM each Santa with the address and wish list of their recipient.
• Each Santa will be responsible for finding a gift from their recipient's wish list and mailing it in time to arrive by December 21st (I lengthened the window a little this year). Keep it anonymous! It's SECRET Santa!
• When you get your gift, you can go ahead an open it, or wait until Christmas! Post pictures in this thread of you with your gift if you can.
• Once everyone has received their gifts, all Santas are encouraged to post clues in their Signature to help people figure out who gave them their gifts.

On Wish Lists

Last year we had a cap of about $50. I don't know for sure, but that may have scared some people off. So let's try to keep it at $40 or less this year. When you send me your wish list, make sure it has a number of items of varying prices. That way someone can get you something from your list no matter what their financial capabilities may be. The $40 is a CAP. It doesn't mean you are required to spend $40.

Your list doesn't have to be just Heroscape, or even games. It can really be anything you want that is legal and shippable.

And of course, Gift Certificates to Site Sponsors make great gifts if you're not sure what to send or receive.

A Note To Younger Participants

I will not turn away participation based on age - however! - please remember that by signing up for this game, you are committing to a responsibility. Get your parents' permission before you send your home address to some random dude in Texas! And make sure you can participate without any other problems (i.e. getting to the post office, getting to the store for shopping, etc). I want everyone who is interested to participate, but be realistic about your ability to do so before signing up.

A Final Word...

The whole point of Secret Santa is giving and spreading some cheer this holiday season. Don't worry so much about what you'll get back, or fret if you think your gift isn't good enough. Just do your best, and have fun! This is about doing something nice for someone else - so put on your elf ears and let's get generous!

If people wish to be able to give or receive used or open product would that be allright if noted? Some may not need much or may be able to give much though still wish to participate and would offer up some squaddies that are on others wish list. I think last year everything was intended to be N.I.P.

EDIT: Just to let folks know, the spending cap is just that a cap. From the $50 range that was set-up last year, some spent $15 while others used the full amount. Don't think you have to spend the full amount. Nobody is expecting to be spoiled, just happy to give instead of receive.

I'd like to put out as few restrictions for people as possible to facilitate participation.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to indicate on your wishlist that you're fine to receive used Scape.

Personally, I also think it's okay to GIVE used Scape if that's the manifestation of your generosity. I dno't think there are a lot of people that will participate and then be like "What the heck?!? Some loser got me OPENED Scape?!? How insulting!"

It's been a tough year for a lot of people all over. Not everyone has extra scratch these days, and I totally understand that. nyys has got the right of it - You give what you can, in the spirit of the season.

Just a quick note on the amount to spend thing.....

If you think you can only afford $20 then you probably shouldnt ask for stuff that costs $40...I used what I put on my list as a gage for what I would spend...and vice versa.

I'd love to do it, but I don't know if I'd be able to find anything on anywish list without ordering it online. The stores around here can be pretty limited...

Thanks to C.L. for taking the reigns! Last year was a lot of fun. I wish that I could run it again but I just don't have the time to oversee it this year. I can't wait to see pics with everyone's 'Oh' face!
