I'm sure everyone is still having FUN with it ( thay at least want to get there money's worth, since it is considered "pricey" ). However, my point is: do you think you will go tired of it within six months or a year and crave something new - especially if these promised expansions don't materialize? What do you mean by "customization?" Is this just some personal House Rules or is there a community consensus already for the need to errata certain mechanics. I think increasing the Range would be first thing to consider for home use and the simplest to execute.
I mean you don't take the same ships and cards everytime.

I don't think you'll enjoy this game based on what you are saying. I don't think it will have what you are looking for.

Re: Battleship Galaxies

Oh bye the way... I was in a WalMart yesterday walking through the toy department and whoa to my amazement I happened to notice the NEW PACKAGING for Hasbro's original battleship game. Guess what? It looks very, VERY similar to the design of the Battleship Galaxies art work on the box. Now I'm wondering how many kids are going to be asking Santa Claus to bring them the awesome, new Battleship Galaxies for Christmas and all of those wonderful, well intentioned grand-parents and aunts and uncles (that only shop at Walmarts, etc and never venture into an actual F.L.G.S.) ... and who don't have a clue what the difference is between a Euro-game, a Miniatures Wargame, and AmeriTrash, are going to be buying and gift wrapping the WRONG one, becasue now they not only sound similar, they also look the same. Check it out the next time you're out shopping. Thanks alot Hasborg.

Re: Battleship Galaxies

After playing or at least solitairing the dozen different board games bought recently at two conventions (soon after GENCON), I'm finally back to BG. Having played the first two scenarios both solitaire and with live opponents (see my comments and first impressions above), I'm solitairing Mission Three. It is a truly brilliant scenario, which lets the Wretch steal the benefits of the ISN cards! Great stuff.

At first it seemed that my Wretch fleet, which only had room for 14 attachments (including the Barrage), had little chance of getting 10 VP, because that meant that it would have to lose none of its own ships except a fighter or two, and attach practically every card in the game. Then I had to put in some House Rules that logically completed the scenario (not to help the Wretch win as such):

STCs (ISN tactical cards stolen by the Wretch) when used up, go back to the Wretch's discard pile, not the IJNs. Each time a Wretch controlled Erin Cho ("clone") card gets one out of the Wretch discard pile for replay and it is reattached, its another VP! The Nuke counts, even if it is used up later, and will count again (once per turn)! Yowza! Good luck to the Earthmen if the Wretch draw a Nuke card and Cho! Then again, I should have figured this out and only set up the ISN with two Nuke cards, both of which could be attached to the Veteran Everest when it was launched with its special Nuclear Arsenal power. But one could always be stolen later on.

Kudos to the designers! And I'm really looking forward to the next scenario too, where the Good Guys move the asteroids, as they do in the comic! Here's hoping we get an expansion before Christmas...

Update: The Wretch swept the ISN off the board, afer accumulating 4 VP. But now the ISN in the next scenario is destroying the Wretch with the meteors as they try to sweep around the flank and avoid them. Instead they get almost pinned against one short side of the board.

And my tactics are improving; some ways to play really are better than others.

Second Update: Finished the scenarios, and now working on one of my own. Mission 5 was lots of fun. Although the Everest was destroyed quickly while on the Shield Regenerator, The Barrage got 4 VP with a fighter escort. Meanwhile the Torrent had gone off to the other edge of the board with fighters. It fired on Chosh Ka which was hogging the Oribital Market, teleported from the Warp Gate to an Energy Shield to power up for a while, and then made a suicide run for more VP. She had Rook and figthers flying Escort Mission along. Torrent was destroyed, but it was glorious! Transferring energy use to ships on different sectors of the board was challenging. The So Bwa Tet, having taken all of its hull hits fighting Barrage, sat on the Shield Regenerator at the end and got them back, so it ended up with Shields up but Hull gone! Love to try it again with a live opponent.

The "Tech Manuals" (Books of...) on www.battleshipgalaxians.com have descriptions but no strategic/tactical tips up yet, so we must boldly go where no person has gone before.

Re: Battleship Galaxies

Having finally played the first three scenarios with Chas, I have to say that I am extremely impressed with this game! I was expecting something more appropriate for gaming newbs, but this game is right up my alley!

I would like some more generic ships for a fleet battle, and I would be happy using the same ship profiles as provided. I suggest using all standard ships (lowest launch cost), with miniatures from multiple sets and making a fleet like that. It might not be perfect, but it's a fun idea that's worth trying!

Re: Battleship Galaxies

Could someone tell me how large the hexes are in this game? 1 inch, 2 inch, something else?

Re: Battleship Galaxies

The hexes are 1", measured across. As opposed to Scape hexes which are 1 1/2" across.

<~snip~> @ Healdhj - I had previously asked how the hexes on the "Battleship Galaxies" maps compare in size with the HeroScape tiles and Lexan Mats, but never got an answer. What "good sized mat" do you "happen to have" available "to use as needed" ...and how can we obtain one also?
Thanks Chas. Someone FINALLY game me the answer that I've been looking for.

Re: Battleship Galaxies

I tried logging in to BattleshipGalaxians today, and it wouldn't let me, nor did it recognize my email address to reset my password, and without being able to log on I can't contact, or get the contact info of the admin to see what the problem is. Can anyone here pm me GameOn's BG email, please?
