Excellent link collection. There's a couple I'd never heard of before.

Re: List of Terrain Making Guide Websites

I just discovered some simple and cheap terrain making tutorials at Triple Ace Games. The one tip I thought was coolest was using spices and herbs for flocking. Not only would it look good, but it would smell good too!

Nice first post Rodenbach. Thanks for the info. I know I'll be visiting a few of those sites.

Bannister, I've never personally used hirst's molds, but I have never heard a single negative thing about them. Anyone who's ever mentioned using them has praised them highly.

Oh, sorry - I forgot to answer your question.

The molds from Hirstarts have a very good quality. You can use them for hundreds of casts without damaging them.
But for that quality you have to pay a lot of money. And one or two molds are not enough to work with efficiently. You need special plaster (I use plaster, dentists normally work with) and the drying process of the plaster takes some time. After 30 minutes you can take the stones out of the mold and you have to wait another 24 hours before you can use them.
For most of the buildings on the Hirstarts page, you need to cast the molds about 15 times. If you work with just two molds, you spend two or more days just on the casting before you can build your first building.

I would recommend at least 8 molds. You can cast 4 molds at the same time without any problems. While the first 4 molds are drying, you can cast the other 4 molds.
But 8 molds are not very cheap. I bought some different molds and made my own molds of the stones I needed most often. Bruce Hirst allows you to make your own molds, if you own the originals. I think, that is the best way to work with the Hirstarts molds efficiently.

Nevertheless, I do not use them quite a lot. Casting the molds takes quite a lot time and isnīt fun. I prefer building my stuff with other materials and just for some details I use Hirstarts and other casted things.
For me, the main point is time. Whenever I can build things faster without hirstarts, I do it without Hirstarts.

PS. Sorry for my very bad English today. In Germany, itīs monday morning and Iīm still tired.
