Re: 4th Massechusetts Line or 10th Regiment of Foot?

Also, improved defense actually leads to improved offense for ranged common squad figures. The higher defense 4th are more likely to keep their height advantage since they die less often and don't need to replenish their losses from the starting zone as much, which in turn allows them to use WtF more as well. A better description would be: 10th Foot- Versatile unit 4th Mass- Map control unit So to get the most out of the 10th, you need other units around to protect them or control your opponent, like Deathreavers or Raelin. The tough part for me whenever I actually try to make or play a 10th Foot army is that I run out of starting hexes very fast. The 4th Mass can do it all on their own, which makes it more worthwhile to draft them en masse ensuring not only that your attacks don't let up until late into the game (thanks to no dead weight with 'cheerleaders'), but having only one place to put order markers on for much of the game actually enhances your versatility and offensive power to be on par with the 10th Foot. The 4th Mass are clearly better except in certain weird situations. Even in those select cases, I think that the 10th Foot are at best on par with the 4th Mass. |

Re: 4th Massachusetts Line or 10th Regiment of Foot?
The 4th are more limiting. The 10th allow for a more versatile army. If you can make a valiant army and use it well, pick the
4th. Otherwise, pick the 10th. |

Re: 4th Massachusetts Line or 10th Regiment of Foot?
If you were planning an all valiant army anyway, then I would go with the 4th. Five points can really make a difference when building an army. However, I would most usually go with the 10th, as long as the points don't inhibit me from adding that one figure that may make the difference.

But, this thread was still used during my debate. Also, someone could still have directed him to my debate. It also has a poll to show who people think is the best unit (even though it is a tie). Never mind, double ninja'd MegaSilver |

Re: 4th Massachusetts Line or 10th Regiment of Foot?
I personally prefer the 10th Regiment because I don't have a lot of valiant figures, so the 10th Regiment could get the melee bonus but the 4th Mass can't get the valiant bonus. They are both some of my favorite figures so the 10th Regiment win out by a slim margin for me. Its pretty cool watching this argument though.

Enough tenth (or if the tenth get the jump on the stingers) will beat stingers 75 percent of the time. Especially if the tenth, or even both, have Raelin.

Re: 4th Massachusetts Line or 10th Regiment of Foot?
I read back through the old posts (dating in 2009, yeesh... necro) and one thing I noticed is that people mentioned using the 4th as the defensive unit, while the 10th was an aggressive unit. I don't believe this to be entirely true.
Just the other day I was using an army consisting of 3x Legionnaires 2x 10th Marcus Decimus Ne-Gok-Sa Isamu And played very defensively. Use the Romans as a shield wall (quite literally) and engage the opponents figures while positioning Marcus in a good position to give the 10th the attack boost. Then, move the 10th adjacent to Marcus (behind your front line) and reap the benefits. If the enemy breaks your line, charge forward and gain the extra attack that way until reinforcements, presuming you have some, arrive. |

10th Regiment for sure. For the points you cant go wrong. They get an extra adjacent defense and an extra adjacent attack for minimal extra points. The old 4th never get table time at my house. As some of the post before me, I always play them with marcus decimus and some romans. Sometimes I throw in the cathar spearmen to make a spear wall in front of my wait then firing 10th Reg.
