Re: The Book of Judge Mortis - Public Testing
I've completed one of my two tests so far. Tried using Kirigi to pull figures next to him but Kirigi got himself engaged before he could use his power.

Re: The Book of Judge Mortis - Public Testing
Is it OK if I send Smithy Judge Fear and Mummy for playtesting Mortis?

Re: The Book of Judge Mortis - Public Testing
I would think yes, if you want to see how all 3 of the undead judges work together. I'm not using either one in my tests so you will have some results from both options.

Re: The Book of Judge Mortis - Public Testing
We'll need results with all of them together. I have one game in and I can already tell you that they work well together as a team. In fact, you should suggest the build I posted above to him as well. I think it's one of the best builds you can make with the Dark Judges at the 1000 point level. Angel is really a key.

Cool. Thanks TB.
Angel is really helpful for Mortis and Fear and also helps move Mummy to the front early. A cloud can change its semblance, yet retain its will With the intimacy of destruction, One knows what it is to be alive The empty sky holds no reflection, for sorrow - Eslo Rudkey |

Re: The Book of Judge Mortis - Public Testing
Spoiler Alert!
C3G STANDARD PLAYTEST FEEDBACK FORM NAME OF THE TEST UNIT (Judge Mortis) - THEME TEST/ Check to see if there are any powers or stats on the test unit card that does not accurately reflect the theme or likeness of what the character would and could do. Also consider destructible objects, and whether or not this characters powers should affect them. pass - MIRROR TEST/ Check to see if the unit were played against itself, if there would be any loops that would upset the balance of the Game. pass - BONDING TEST/ Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing Bonding abilities to make sure there are no continual Bonding possibilities that do not stop appropriately or do not stop at all. This is to prevent loops in Bonding. pass - SYNERGIES TEST/ Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing synergies to make sure there are no factors that could break the game by making any unit to powerful or too weak. pass - POWER CHECK/ Consider the test unit and all existing units and all glyphs to compare to and check for any powers that could be over amplified and break the game. Each power must define when it takes place, who or what it affects, and What are the stipulations on the power if there are any. pass - FUN TEST/ Consider whether or not the design was fun to play. pass - FUN COMPETITIVE TEST/ Consider whether or not the design was fun to play against. pass - DRAFTING TEST/ Consider whether or not this design is worth drafting. pass - USAGE TEST/ Consider whether or not all of the powers on this card were used or at least usable. pass - STRATEGY TEST/ Consider whether or not the design offers any real strategy or interesting tactics to the overall game. pass _____________________________________________________________ Army Test 1 - Does it pass, Yes or No? yes - What should be the unit's point value? 145 works here as he did earn back 138 points in damage, some of the other members of his team were the ones that underperformed. - Give a brief overview. An all Undead team for maximum Dark Judgement opportunities, although I may hold off on teleporting in until after the Avengers heavy hitters get softened up a bit. When Hulk is fully enraged, Mortis may be my ace in the hole for getting past that 12 defense. Map: Freezing Chamber - no glyphs or special rules, small SZs on opposite ends Units: Judge Mortis, Kirigi, Solomon Grundy, Silver Banshee, Living Mummy (1100) vs. Ms. Marvel, C3G Hulk, Red Hulk (1100)
Spoiler Alert!
Recap: Dark Judgement used 3 times, leading to 2 wounds Decaying Touch dealt 3 wounds to Red Hulk (~138 points) Dimensional Teleport used 0 times. The Avengers team was just throwing a ton of dice at the undead and took them out of the game fairly early, costing them 2 OMs when they took out Grundy at the start of a round. He did come back twice in total but only attacked one more time in total before being killed twice more. Silver Banshee didn’t do much other than distract Ms. Marvel so the others could focus on Red Hulk. Mummy took a couple of big hits and dealt 1W before dropping. Kirigi managed to make it a bit more interesting by finishing off Red Hulk & Ms. Marvel, than dealing some wounds to Hulk. _____________________________________________________________ Army Test 2 - Does it pass, Yes or No? yes - What should be the unit's point value? 145 seems fine again as he pretty effortlessly earned back 134 points before going down. - Give a brief overview. Wanted to try and pair up Mortis with Blob, figuring Blob could lock some people down then Mortis could teleport close by and they could not get away from Mortis. Also wanted to see how the Frankenstein Creature Command would work when combined with Dark Judgement. Map: Freezing Chamber - no glyphs or special rules, small SZs on opposite ends Units: Judge Mortis, Blob, Frankenstein, Solomon Grundy, Werewolf, Living Mummy (1150) vs. Superman 2.0, Wonder Woman, US Agent, Tigra (1150)
Spoiler Alert!
Recap: Dark Judgement used 1 times, leading to 1 wound on WW Decaying Touch dealt 3 wounds, 2 to Wonder Woman & 1 to Tigra (~134 points) Dimensional Teleport used 3 times. After the first 3 rounds things looked to be going pretty good for the Undead as WW rolled really poor dice and dropped in no time, but then losing initiative in round 4 was a game changer. Had they won, Blob would have moved adj. to Tigra & US Agent, getting them stuck in place where Living Mummy had HG on them and Frank could get HG for some ranged attack on US Agent, but they didn’t win initiative. Instead Tigra Stealth Leaped up above Mummy and destroyed him, then moved next to Frank and destroyed him, killing 2OMs as well, then proceeded to destroy pretty much everything else with her 3 attacks of 5. US Agent was also dishing out multiple wounds to anyone that tried to attack him. Grundy came back to life to give them a little bit of hope, but botched his HG att. on US agent, then whiffed on defense and promptly died again without doing anything at all. Mortis only got to attack 3 times in total and dealt a W on every attack, he is certainly worth drafting in any undead army. He did not want anything to do with US Agent though. |

Re: The Book of Judge Mortis - Public Testing
A couple of additional thoughts:
While army building for this test I noticed that Mortis is the one undead figure that does not really have an undead feel as it relates to survivability. Frank, Mummy, & Kirigi all have undead resilience. Silver Banshee has Magical Defense. Crow can't be attacked at all sometimes. Angel & Zombie both have healing. Black Lantern can avoid death and heal 3W, twice. Gentlemen Ghost, Grundy, & Judge Death all can return to the game board after they get killed. I don't know if that is thematically correct or not as the Judge Dredd universe is concerned but I did think it was worth noting as he just takes wound like a human would, dies, and stays dead. If he was harder to kill though, his points would go up considerably as the thing that keeps his bonded auto wound power in check is the ease of his demise. Your opponent quickly learns the danger he presents if ignored and once focused on taking him out can do so rather quickly. His team lost both games, the second one by a lot, but it was no fault of Mortis. The rest of his team members almost universally failed to earn back their points. |

Re: The Book of Judge Mortis - Public Testing
Great tests and insights YK. Multiple attacks/activations really hurt the Mortis/Mummy combo.
Unfortunately there is no room on Fear and Mortis' card for a defensive power. In the comics all the Dark Judges can return from destruction but I felt like four figures that could teleport and re-spawn would be really annoying to play against. Originally Dimensional Teleport had a healing mechanic but that was dropped early when I tried to reign in the points for Judge Death. I really wish I would have went with the original version of Death and just let him be 350 or whatever points he would have cost. The teleport/healing combo would also have been annoying but tempered by the fact that it would not work with 3+ wounds on the figure. All in all I am really happy with how Mortis ended up. Re: The Book of Judge Mortis - Public Testing
You vould just bump Mortis' life up a bit to make a bit mir survivable.

Re: The Book of Judge Mortis - Public Testing
His Life is directly tied to the Dimensional Teleport mechanic,
0-2 wounds he may teleport, 3-4 wounds he may not. Also there is no way Mortis could have more Life than Death and Fear. The only one I would consider increasing Life on would be Fire but I will most likely just increase his Defense by one. I think Mortis is perfect as-is. No complaints about Fear either. These guys specialize in destroying everyday citizens. Their real power was in there pseudo-immortality but as I stated that would be horrible to play against. It really came down to teleport or re-spawn and I think teleport is more fun to play. They also demonstrated the ability to possess people when in 'spirit form'. So when you destroy one they would take over one of your figures. Mortis actually caused his host to decay and eventually transformed into Mortis form. That would be really terrible to play against. ___________________________________________________________ THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: This is my first time playing the Dark Judges, so this is kind of an evaluation of all of them. These were a some decent matchups for them (tight map, almost no SAs to face), but there were also some higher Life figures and no commons for Death to eat up. It shows how strong this army can be when things go right for them. With Death’s SA, Mortis’ autowounds, and Fear’s Defense subtract, they can do some serious damage very quickly. However, if it takes them too long to set up, or the opponent can move away, they’ll struggle. As for Mortis, I didn’t find him unbalanced, but I found him very potent. It’s hard for the opponent to prioritize attacking him, because Death and Mummy are also doing a lot of damage, and they have the OMs. Mortis’ autowounds are very reliable though, and I found myself using him on the few turns where Death was able to activate another Undead Hero. Impressive victories. Thoughts on points?
Not that it really matters but how good do you think they would be without Mummy? A cloud can change its semblance, yet retain its will With the intimacy of destruction, One knows what it is to be alive The empty sky holds no reflection, for sorrow - Eslo Rudkey |
