Re: Base a Competitive Army Around: Jotun

Try to use a summoning/flanking approach.
It'll be in the larger ranges of point cost, but it'll be fun to play out. (it should be)
i'm new here, go easy.
Jotun 225
Sonlen 160
Syvarris 100
Emiroon 80
Saylind 80
Isamu/Otonashi 10
Flank right/left with the Emiroon+Theracus/Saylind, along the way planting Syvarris/Sonlen at height, w/Saylind planting Jotun next to priority hero(Kato Katsuro for example) and flying emiroon forward to plant Sonlen closer to battlefield to provide support.
Use Isamu/Otonashi for taking out high priority figures or grabbing glyphs.
Give me your harshest critiques.

Re: Base a Competitive Army Around: Jotun

Jexik: Really like the way you're thinking there - I only have 2x redcoats, so not for me. But let us all know if you get a chance to playtest.

KCU Master: I am definitely trying your all-melee offering, especially with the number of maps that I am currently making with jungle.

Quick battle report: Played a 2 v 2 tonight, set up a noob with my Jotun, Venoc Army and he took over when my Marro failed. He ended up sealing the win for our team. He didn't particularly like the Venocs, but loved Jotun and "Indiana" James Murphy.

Currently playing:
Dixit; Catan; Pastiche; and waiting for my copy of Critical Mass to arrive from Arcane Wonders!

Dum Vivimus, Vivamus!

Re: Base a Competitive Army Around: Jotun

Jotun 225
Zelrig 185
Crixus 90

You have an hero killer, squad killer and flex unit for those odd situations....also, the ease of three cards to put markers on.

An alternative...

Jotun 225
Zelrig 185
Thorgrim 80
Isamu 90

Thorgrim to berserker dash and enhance the tall one's modest weakness of defense...and Isamu to jump on a glyph.

For both of these, it addresses the issue of swarm armies against Jotun by applying a healthy dose of Majestic Fire to the battlefield.

Re: Base a Competitive Army Around: Jotun

Jotun 225
Kelda 80
Saylind 80
Laglor 110
Total 495

First concentrate your order markers on Jotun wiping out everything you can. Leave Kelda and Saylind in your start zone, as Jotun begins taking wounds snatch him back with Saylind and heal with Kelda then march him back out. Use Laglor accordingly for cleanup. I used this army with great success against my brother and cousin in a game recently. Only we were playing 600 points and I also had Carr.

That army doesn't use Laglor to his full potential.

Re: Base a Competitive Army Around: Jotun

From the 500 point thread:

80 Raelin (RotV)
120 Arrow Gruts x3
75 Swog Rider x3
225 Jotun
500, 18 hexes

Basically, it's a standard AG army, with Jotun in Krug's place.

225 10th regiment of foot x3
50 Tarn Viking Warriors
225 Jotun
500, 18 hexes

At 530+, you can use two squads of rats in stead of TVW.

Re: Base a Competitive Army Around: Jotun

Jotun 225
Raelin 80
Dumutef 25
Otinashi 10
Krav 100
Izumi 60
= 500 pts.

Izumi are mobile and defensive enough(especially with Raelin) to lock down opponents.

Krav, need I say more?

Dumutef and Otanashi are bang for buck.

It's just a "game"?

Re: Base a Competitive Army Around: Jotun

Here's an army I used while I was test-playing KCU Master 2007's Forgotten Outpost:

Jotun 225
Thorgrim 80
Finn 80
Drudge x2 100
Izumi 60
Eldgrim 30
Isamu 10
Otonashi 10

Drudge can grab glyphs and/or provide ranged support. Eldgrim is probably better used on the Izumi, while the two other vikings go onto the big guy! This army narrowly beat:

Q9
Raelin 1
Krav
Laglor
Fyorlags
Dumutef
I think Blastatrons, but I'm not sure...
