Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

The stone walls and Jersey Barriers I recently got will be good for a variety of size models and genres. Thanks @mac122 for the heads up about these items at Miniature Market.

They will work for the 15mm/18mm Halo Ground Command figures. The 28mm Frostgrave figures work great, though they won't likely be rockin' the Jersey Barriers. And they work well with the 32mm? Walking Dead figures. I imagine they will also work well in a lower tech setting for Infinity.
I had considered painting some graffiti on the Jersey Barriers, but didn't want them to look too specific for a particular system.

I had primed them, gave them a wash with a little black paint mixed with Quick Shine Floor Finish, and then did a little drybrushing with a couple shades of grey. I didn't spend too much time on them and they are serviceable for what I will use them for.

How it will be set up will be very similar to the regular stuff. In some of the expansion books it temporarily changes your warband size. It will be similar to that and have different mix and match scenarios just like in the book. Im also goingto be making monster cards some of which are for heroscape characters along with some rescuable npcs that can be used to finish quests or temporarily help the party.

Thanks TREX!

In hindsight. I could have gone with a lighter, more concrete look for the Jersey Barriers like you see in road construction. But mine will just seem a little more wartorn an be dirty, burned etc. At least that's what I'm telling myself

The Jersey Barriers are $1 each and the stone walls are $2 each, and obviously bigger. It's not like they are dirt cheap, but I think they will be worth it because of their versatility across various scales and genres of minis. I think it's always easier to justify spending the money if there are many applications for a product.

I was going to order a really cool neoprene game mat that is a suburban setting and it's also cut into six 2x2 foot pieces so that you can line them up differently and have a small game on a 2x2, all the way to a 4x6 when they are all put together. But it was pretty much limited to The Walking Dead or other modern types of games, and even some other post apocalyptic stuff. But it was going to be like $118, with around $36 of that being shipping from Europe. As much as I enjoy The Walking Dead game, I hate to put that much just into a mat for it. Here is that mat/s
http://www.deepcutstudio.com/product...ad-town-tiles/

So I was also going to get a 4x4 mat that had some dirt, rocks and greenery on it. This was going to be for Ghost Archipelago and The Drowned Earth, where I can put jungle terrain to cover certain elements and expose certain elements, depending on what tropical setting I was looking for. I figured then, maybe it could also be used for a country setting for The Walking Dead, with the 2 story house I'm getting being a focal point and having it like a dirt road leading up to it, kind of like the Greene farm in TWD.

But since I'm getting big into Star Wars Legion, I figured that mat would be good for that as well, but their play surface is 6x3. So now I'm looking at the 6x4 version of that same mat and it will fill a lot of needs. Then I saw that they had a double sided mat with that design I like on one side, but also a desert type setting on the other side. Hmmm... that will work for some Star Wars Legion desert settings, as well as maybe for some tropical settings with a lot of the sand covered by terrain but leaving some sandy paths open. Then, I remembered that I have the rulebook for Dracula's America, and if I ever get minis for that and some western buildings, the desert side will be good for that.

So ultimately, this will run me about $125- $130, but I was almost going to spend that on a mat pretty much dedicated to The Walking Dead. So now I feel that I will get so much more bang for my buck with this and have options for so many game systems.

Yeah, that's the one I'm going to get. I'm going to order it with my buddy Chris orders the asphalt mat and a set of neoprene urban overlays for making a variety of city settings. Another friend may add a snow mat for Legion, but not sure. We're hoping to save a little on shipping by ordering together.

For me, the benefit of a mat like these is that they are easy to just roll out onto the table and start adding terrain to, and very easy storage since they roll up into a handy carrying bag that comes with it. As much as u would live to make a board out of that foam insulation, I would need shelf space for it that I don't have.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

I'd gotten my Frostgrave Ghost Archipelago package on Sunday and after prepping and washing the metals and resins, I got them primed on Wednesday.

Female Heritor, Female Warden (both behind the crocodile's tail) and the rest in no particular order. Herbalist, Crackshot (with crossbow), Pearl Diver, Tomb Robber, Scout, Guide, Female crew (with bow, with trident, with sword and shield and with hammer), exclusive tribeman, snake man, Drichean, Nile Crocodile, Gorilla, Mountain Goat, Big lizard, Snapping turtle, 3 Screamer Monkeys and 2 Blood Bats. Also have the 5 resin treasure tokens primed.

Then between Thursday night, Friday night and part of today, I managed to get all 20 of the plastic crewmen done from the crewmen kit that came with 4 sprues of bodies, heads, arms, weapons and a lot of misc other gear.

These seemed to be more work than the Frostgrave soldiers kit, because these didn't come with the daggers or pouches already molded in with the body of the figure. There were also more cases where you had to meet a wrist with a hand on a 2-handed weapon.

Also, since I still had a bunch of pieces left on the sprues of the soldiers kit (and didn't have a previous partial kit when doing rhe soldiers kit), I was able to kit bash with parts from both sets, so that added time to the build, but also added a lot more variety. I even used a spear from a Mantic undead kit, to add to an open hand to give me a cool option for a 2nd Hunter specialist, one that wasn't quite as over the top as my 1st one.

I have a metal Herbalist, but wanted an option for another so that more than one warband could have one. So I made made a guy with a potion in his left hand, with another one on his belt next to his backpack of herbs that has a big shell on top, for some medicinal purpose I suppose.

These were fun to build, but I'm glad to be done, as I have had enough superglue smell to last me awhile. Makes me appreciate the pre-built models from The Walking Dead All Out War and Guild Ball Kickoff so much more. Though, these were a lot easier than the 29 Infinity models I recently built.

So now to get these guys primed when we have a decent day and it's warm enough in the garage and not damp out, I can spray prime them. Between the metal ones that are already primed and these 20 after they get primed, I'll be set for stuff to paint over the winter. I still have 29 primed Infinity models to paint as well. So the only issue will be not being able to spray varnish anything unless the weather gets just right over the winter, so we'll see about that. I use Testor's Dullcote to spray varnish and that is absolutely brutal smelling, so it's not going to happen inside. Though, I do have a matte varnish from Army Painter that I can brush on. That will have to do. If I use static grass on any of the bases, I'll just brush varnish the figure and wait to spray the grass when the weather is right. Brushing varnish onto grass doesn't seem like it would work right.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

Very cool stuff hahma. Im still painting pirates. I am all but finished with my 4th crew now along with 6 add on hero boxes. By the end of the night ill have painted 158 pirates for the rum and bones games. One question. Your crocs and some creatures arent based. Will they be? Even though the pirates have been taking me awhile to paint I am having some fun with it. I really like painting the individual heroes but kind of despise painting the crew. Its 30 models of each crew but only 4 sculpts. Ill be super happy finishing the crews and just prime up one add on box at a time and enjoy them more that way. On a side note. For all you guys out there piecing together your warbands there are a great deal of cool mageknight figures on troll and toad that fit the bill. I just picked up a handful more figures off there for fun.

That's a lot of pirates!

I'm not planning on basing those creatures, other than the bats, which I'll figure a way to have them mounted pm a post of some sort that is mounted to a base. I'm not ruling it out totally for the others, but I will need a big one for the croc. The only benefit really would to have a consistent edge for measuring purposes, bit this is a casual enough game that it would work without basing.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

After the 158 I finished this morning I still have 4 full crews of pirates and the ragnarok crew of vikings along with all the rest of the mercenaries Im yet to paint. Its another 236 more pirates and 5 sea creatures left for the complete rum and bones set to be painted. Crazy insane. Im starting the rum and bones 2nd tide core box next. After that all the pre primed figures i did will be done. Then ill just pick a booster at a time to prime and paint.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

@Hahma , I just picked up Ghost Archipelago on amazon with my prime account. It was 20 bucks and will be here in a few days. Sweet. Since my brothers and I haven't been able to get any table top action in lately I've been talking to them to set something up. My top priority 2 things I'd like to get done are: Frostgrave Coop Ruleset with scenarios and monster cards, and Throw together some scatter terrain for Gridless imperial assault. After checking out how much the boosters are for Starwars legion, I've decided to pass on that. I seen it was some 20 bucks for an at st. I already have 5 At St type models in 28mm, so rebuying them a little bigger is nuts. I have 2 older At St models from the starwars miniatures lines, an AT-ST from the core Imperial Assault set. General Weiss in his jacked up AT-ST from an IA Booster, and now an At-dp, which is from the latest big box set expansion set from IA. It looks quite awesome, but I think with Imperial Assault skirmish in a gridless environment should easily scratch the itch. I'm going to seriously post pics. Its a ton easier to post them off my phone onto facebook. I just recently got facebook and may just post a link to there if you do that it'll be easier for me to post things.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

@TREX

Cool that you are getting the Ghost Archipelago rules. I've glossed over them a little bit and they are neat. Certainly different in a few ways than Frostgrave and the ways Heritors and Wardens work is cool and different than Wizards/Apprentices. Also, the generic crew are basically like Thug stats, but they can be armed differently. Also, you can only have 4 specialist crew, the type that you hire from the chart like in Frostgrave (less the Thug and Thief of course).

Hopefully you and your brothers can get some tabletop in. I don't have Imperial Assault or any other Star Wars minis, so I'll be forking over the $$$ for the Legion stuff. But, at least I know 2 other buddies (not Chris though) are getting Legion stuff as well, so it will get played. I don't mind spending the money on stuff if it gets played. Part of the fun over the past year+ since I've gotten more into tabletop minis games, is the hobby aspect of assembly, prep, painting of minis and doing terrain stuff. So that has added enjoyment other than just playing.

Actually, since I stopped using Photobucket for pictures since they started charging, is use Facebook to grab pictures to post here. I take the pictures with my phone and upload them to one of a few groups I belong to, whichever photos are relevant to that group. Then I go to that FB group page on my computer and click on the picture I want and expand it to full size there. Then I right click and choose to copy the link address for that picture. I have another tab open on my computer with the Scaper page I want to post the picture to and then I click on the mountain looking symbol on the tab to the left of the quote symbol and insert the link address I copied from the Facebook page. So that's how I've been able to post pictures here.
