We're looking at potentially getting the old bio released, but as a quick teaser in the meantime, I can 100% confirm that it stands for Many Acronyms Reinforce Sarcasm.

I recently had the opportunity to try out M.A.R.S.; fun unit!. I tried to capitalize on his ability to disrupt opponents' positioning via the threat of his special attack by pairing him with three squads of Nhah Scrih Cultists, which seem to thrive in exactly such a situation. This proved to be an effective strategy, as the Cultists' presence forced some difficult decisions by the mid-game, so I would say this was a positive first impression. I imagine that M.A.R.S. would complement other slippery, assassin types in much the same manner.

Ooh; what changed? I thought that SoV units' authors' bios were decidedly non-canonical.

That's correct. The C3V can use them as inspiration for an "official" bio though. So if we really wanted to, we could word for word copy the submitted bio and make it "canon".

Q: If Tandros Kreel is adjacent to M.A.R.S. and M.A.R.S. chooses to use Missile Barrage Special Attack, can he choose a second adjacent target along with Tandros?
A: Yes, Missile Barrage targets two figures. All other figures are affected. As long as Tandros is one of the two targeted figures, M.A.R.S. may target another one, though the second figure must also be adjacent to M.A.R.S. due to engagement rules.
