The Book of Three-Space Glacier Terrain Tutorial

The Book of Three-Space Glacier Custom Tutorial

-Supplies Needed-
  • Household aluminum foil
  • Sculpey Oven Bake Clay
  • An official Heroscape one-space Glacier or a small screw driver
  • A conventional or toaster oven for baking
  • A cookie tray
  • A paint brush
  • "Regency Blue" acrylic paint
  • A can of "White" interior/exterior spray paint
-Tutorial-
  1. Start off by building a simple Hex design to compare the size of your model to as you work. By removing the official three-space Glacier and replacing it with your model from time to time, you can help ensure that your finished product will be able to fit on the battlefield correctly.
  2. Mold your aluminum foil into the shape of an official three-space Glacier.
  3. Mold a thin layer of Sculpey over the entire aluminum model.
  4. Flip the official one-space Glacier upside down, place it against the side of the model, and roll the two together as you press them in. This should create a nice pattern across the model.

or, if you don't have the official one-space Glacier, you could use a small screwdriver to create a similar pattern. Place the flat end of the screw driver on the model near the top and drag down creating small crevices along the sides.
  5. Stand the model up on your baking sheet and place it in the oven.
  6. Bake according to the directions.
  7. Paint the model with the "Regency Blue" paint, similar to "Light Blue". Make all of your brush strokes starting from the bottom and working to the top on all sides. Leave plenty of unpainted surfaces as your brush naturally skips over them.
  8. Spray paint the model from a birds eye view (facing down). This will help simulate a snow fall pattern.
  9. Your finished product can now be placed on the battlefield and used as a three-space Glacier or a C3G Ice Hill Destructible Object.

Moved the pics to a more appropriate folder.

Adjusted pics by resizing, sharpening, & adjusting the colour.

Sooo looking forward to seeing pics of that!

C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

That sounds fantastic! I hope you'll be able to share a picture.

BTW - I tend to be pretty timid when it comes to these types of projects. I had an unsuccessful run with cardstock terrain, and recently assembled one of Grishnak's buildings. But these instructions are genius, and it really looks simple. I'm happy with the amount of tundra terrain I have, but I may try to build some volcanic rocks and mountains. A volcano would look fantastic on the Dark Dimensions map. If Sculpey is as easy to work with as it appears, I may even experiment to see if I could add a shelf along a mountainside that figures could occupy.

Very cool stuff! (or in the case of lava, hot)

Yeah, I've got to play a game with some of the new Winter figures. Go Penguins!

I just ordered some Sculpey from Amazon, and I'm going to give this a shot!

Re: The Book of Three-Space Glacier Terrain Tutorial

Go for it David!

It is easy to work with, and honestly, I didn't put much love into the detail work. If someone wanted to be serious about it, these rocks could look much much better than what I have posted here.
