A literal reading of the text gives him the ability to attack non-adjacent figures. At best it can be misread that way. I don't honestly see it as an improvement over the wording I suggested.
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

I haven't seen a single reason why what I proposed doesn't work. I mean, I guess if you're intent on trying for something else, that's your prerogative. But it feels like a waste of time to me.

“Adjacent figures are not considered to be engaged”

That’s the wording I’ve used on customs and a write up I haven’t posted yet. If you’re not engaged then you can attack with range.
