That's a cool idea, Reverie. Maybe it could apply a low-end Chaos Magic Curse style effect to all figures as well, just as a kind of Wanda callback?

Very minor point, but turning Commons to Humans for a round is a weird sort of Wonder Man synergy. Kinda weird, but I dig that.

And yeah, really dig this as an "iconic moment" spell! It would be (heh) a big Splash for a first design.

Question, if it was just the species change, does anyone think it could last the whole game or would that still be too OP?

Once per round please! It’s be a real bummer to completely wreck an X-Men team for a whole game like that. Also this IS just a spell. Wrecking bonding for a whole round is still pretty significant for a spell.

A healthy amount of Points

After revealing an Order Marker on this figure's card, instead of taking a turn, choose a non-human species. All figures of that species are considered Human instead of the chosen species for the remainder of the round. Before Decimation takes effect, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll 1-2, each player may choose one army card that is not affected by Decimation.

No more mutants.

What if the caster rolls the d20 and if you roll 1-2, each opponent may choose one army card to not be affected?

I think switching to a species change instead of straight power removal will be enough to make the effect somewhat patchwork, as though a percentage of characters remain unaffected. Given that this effect is more about disrupting species synergies, I wonder if exempting a single card will have a meaningful effect. But I suppose answering questions like that is what testing is for!

I know it would screw over Prof. X type builds, but I kind of feel it should last the whole game and just be an expensive spell. If you all are set on a one round limit, then it should be cast either before or after rolling for initiative instead of having to wait until you can take a turn, then giving up that turn.

Should we start the reevaluation thread now? A spell that could let you functionally negate entire armies for entire games screams "negative play experience" to me.

I feel like, for an 'iconic, cataclysmic moment' effect like this, maybe taking a cue from Thanos's Snap may be a good idea? Let it be cataclysmic negation, but don't make it something you can open with out of the gate - make it something you have to wait to use and, ideally, earn.

If it's costed at like 1,000 points, I think that's probably workable.

Yeah, I'm not sure it being something the player "earns" feels entirely right, but a game-long effect seems much more viable if it's something that you're not just going to cast R1T1. Maybe there is a D20 roll, but you get to add to it for each destroyed figure?
