This is where I arrived. Rules first, then in spoilers designs that would make it relevant (though you could also just play it as a main battlefield where Telepaths and magic users are stronger, but you might get zipped around to your start zone randomly, due to dream logic).

SETUP:
The Astral Plane is intended to be playable as a standalone map or an addition to other battlefields. If a scenario or Army Card references the Astral Plane, place the Astral Plane beside any other battlefield in the play area, unconnected.

SPECIAL RULES

Otherworldly Plane
Only Manifestations may occupy the Astral Plane. Any figure that starts the game on the Astral Plane has the species of Manifestation instead of what is printed on its card. If the Manifestation or its Tether is a Telepath or a figure with the Magical Defense special power, add one to its attack and defense.

Connections to Reality
When taking a turn with a Manifestation, if it has a Tether, you may use any special powers on the chosen figure's Army Card. If the special power refers to the chosen figure or the chosen figure's card, it refers to the Manifestation or the Manifestation's card instead.

Without a Tether
At the end of each Player's turn, roll two unblockable attack dice against any figure you control that is occupying the Astral Plane and does not have a Tether. If you roll a shield, immediately place that figure in any empty space in your Start Zone, if possible.

PSYCHIC TETHER
At the start of the game, choose a Unique or Event Hero without a Tether marker on its card and place this Psychic Projection’s blue Tether marker on chosen Hero’s card. While its Tether marker is on that card, the chosen Hero is this Psychic Projection’s Tether. Place this Psychic Projection on any empty space in the Astral Plane instead of your start zone and give control of this Psychic Projection and its Army Card to the player who controls its Tether.

PLANAR FORESIGHT
When rolling for initiative, you may add 2 to your roll. If this Psychic Projection inflicts one or more wounds on an enemy figure, you may view one unrevealed Order Marker on that figure or its Tether’s card. After viewing the Order Marker, you may choose to remove it.

LINKED CONSCIOUSNESS
Instead of taking a turn with its Tether, you may take a turn with this Psychic Projection. If this Psychic Projection's Tether would be destroyed or otherwise removed from the battlefield, you must remove this Psychic Projection and its Tether Marker from the game instead and ignore any wounds the Tether would have received. If this Psychic Projection receives one or more wounds, its Tether receives one automatic wound.

While his Tether marker is on that card, the chosen Hero is Shadow King’s Host. Place Shadow King on any empty space in the Astral Plane instead of your start zone. If Shadow King's Host would be destroyed or otherwise removed from the battlefield, you must instead place Shadow King's figure on any empty space adjacent to his Host, remove any Wound Markers from this card, and remove Shadow King’s Tether Marker from the game.

RULER OF THE ASTRAL PLANE
If Shadow King is on the Astral Plane and inflicts any number of wounds on an enemy figure, you may choose not to place one or more of those wounds. If you do, Shadow King may attack one additional time. If Shadow King would be destroyed while occupying the Astral Plane, before removing his figure, his Host receives one wound.

SHADOW MANIPULATION
Instead of taking a turn, if Shadow King is placed on another hero’s Army Card, you may take temporary control of that hero and immediately take a turn with it. At the end of that turn, control of the affected Hero returns to the player who controlled the Hero before the Shadow Manipulation.

If Shadow King's Tether Marker is on this card, instead of taking a turn with Amahl Farouk, you may either take a turn with Shadow King, place Shadow King's figure on any empty space on the Astral Plane, even if he is destroyed, or choose a Unique Hero adjacent to Amahl Farouk that does not have the Mental Shield special power or a Tether marker on its card and move Shadow King’s figure from the Astral Plane to the chosen figure’s card. After Shadow King is moved to the Astral Plane this way, remove one Wound Marker from his card.

PSYCHIC RETALIATION X
Once per round, if Amahl Farouk is attacked by a figure that does not have the Mental Shield special power, and at least 1 skull is rolled, you may reveal the “X” Order Marker on this card. After revealing the “X” Order Marker, Amahl Farouk receives no wounds and you may roll 1 attack die. If a skull is rolled, the attacking figure receives 1 wound.

MENTAL SHIELD
An opponent may never take temporary or permanent control of Amahl Farouk.

I am always willing but lacking in time. My family takes nearly all of my free time otherwise I would definitely still be active in the AD. (As it is lately I have been slacking off work too much to keep relatively up-to-date )

What you have done here so far is perfect. Don't sell yourself short. You are doing a bang-up job! (Remember, more skilled means they have made more mistakes than you. They have just had more time to learn from them.)

Yea I like the idea A3n is going for, something a little bit asymmetrical. Definitely at least want the partial hexes gone on the final version to save on printer ink.

There's no hurry to finalize art here. We have something we can test with and a lot of time before the mechanics and testing will be all figured out here.
