Re: Ixe's Custom Units
You have a good point Ixe, 4 attacks of 4 is something that could be attained fairly easily. I would encourage you to continue to develop these guys, I think they have alot of promise.
Have you tried Hexscape? 3D Heroscape Multiplayer Battle program! Looking for a C3V/SOV miniature? Try one of these sites. |

Re: Ixe's Custom Units
Here's a 4-figure common squad for Ullar. Thanks to @IshMEL for some great miniature finds to help me round out this idea that I've had for a while.
This is the Back Woods Dryad from D&D Miniatures - Desert of Desolation. This is the Living Elemetnal from Mage Knight - Rebellion. This is the Tanglewood Spirit from Mage Knight - Whrilwind. And finally this is the Wood Golem from Mage Knight - Rebellion. NAME = Aubrien Woodkin GENERAL = Ullar PLANET = Feylund SPECIES = Plant CLASS = Protectors PERSONALITY = Relentless SIZE = Medium 5 COMMON SQUAD LIFE = 1 (4 Figures) MOVE = 4 RANGE = 1 ATTACK = 2 DEFENSE = 2 POINTS = 50 PLANT TOUGH When rolling defense dice for an Aubrien Woodkin, if that Aubrien Woodkin is on a land space, add one automatic shield to the defense roll. CREEPING DOOM After an Aubrien Woodkin you control rolls defense dice against a normal attack from an opponent's non-adjacent figure, you may move the defending Aubrien Woodkin up to 4 spaces. ANIMATED PLANT Aubrien Woodkin are considered to be a bush for the purposes of special powers referencing bushes. The Aubrien Woodkin are relentless protectors within the deep woods on Feylund. They rise up from the forest floor and slowly overwhelm their enemies en masse. Any attempt to fight them from a distance only brings them closer to the fight as the shots glance harmlessly off their bark skin. The woodkin on their own are decent as a cheap melee screen that can do do okay against range and rapidly close the distance. However, their best use is truly alongside the Eilan Sidhe and my own custom, Isley. By moving them out, they can out as a mobile means of transport for the Eilan Sidhe as well as extending unparalleled defense to the harder hitting Sidhe. With Isley the woodkin act more akin to fire elementals in threatening wounds against all nearby them. As always, comments are greatly appreciated! Last edited by Ixe; May 25th, 2015 at 11:12 AM. |

Re: Ixe's Custom Units
Nice! I like what you've done here. I had a plant squad that were supposed to be mobile trees, but the scale was all off. Mobile bushes, on the other hand, should be just fine. They'll be fun to play with the Sidhe.
As is my wont, I will make a thematic suggestion: restrict the Land spaces in Plant Tough to rock, sand, or grass. Maybe snow too? Plants have a hard time on asphalt, roads, and lava! |

Maybe with lava field but I wouldn't underestimate plants. They'll push right through concrete given the time.

Re: Ixe's Custom Units
That's funny these guys are really similar to the powers of Ents I made for the videogame I'm working on (except replace Creeping Doom with Carry and make them heroes and slightly tougher).
"They are too numerous to fight. What shall we do?" "Fight anyway." "You can never defeat another if you know not how to defeat yourself." my tradelist |

Re: Ixe's Custom Units
Do they take leaving engagements when using creeping doom?

Re: Ixe's Custom Units
Yes they do. It's only good for closing with range but won't necessarily carry them past any screens.

I love this design. While the figure is interesting in and of itself, a sort of discount Syvarris, the subtly great synergy with the M-43s is really cool. I can't help but feel that 50pts is too low, though. One less life does hurt, but otherwise the stats are on par with Syvarris. Obviously the need to stand still to double shoot is a big disadvantage, but part of the advantage of a unit like this is that you normally do not need to move them. My Syvarris usually just sits on the nearest hill until he dies. The direct synergy with your Spotter squad is even more frightening, where her disadvantage doesn't even matter. Jarland Warriors The concept here is obvious, but it's dangerously limiting to future designs I fear. For example, the way it is written Marro Gnids on the Champion's card will hold back the Jarlands. It works for Gnids, but a similar design might have some effect that doesn't make sense for a Common Squad. For example, a parasite that caused wounds. Aubrien Woodkin I appreciate another entry into the defender design space. Personally I don't think a reactionary move of 4 is very "creeping" or lumbering plant-like, but the group does need something of the sort to fulfill it's role. The idea of mixing them with Sidhe is really cool. |
