Transporting maps
I have a map 14 by 15 hexes I need to transport to school. It's for a progect, create your own game. I just used the hexes for the battlefield.
It's a preety nice map too. It has a river with ice mixed in to show it's freezing over (don't you love the way ice and water look together?) with a few icebergs scattered around it. It's surronded by snow. Any help would be helpful. (duh) Swamper |

When I want to transport maps, I usually put them on a large and flat wooden board.

Sounds like your map is pretty small. In a pinch, you could use a folded game board (chess, Risk, monopoly, etc) to transport your map.
Foam core seems to be the material of choice around here. It's plenty strong to carry a fully assembled map, and much lighter than plywood or MDF. You should be able to pick up a 20x30 sheet at your local discount or hobby store. For tourney-size maps, I bought a 32x40 sheet of foam core and cut it down to 28x40. |

Things also depend on your transportation needs. I took a map into school once myself, but it was for my Latin class of 5 people, including myself (roman soldiers = approval ).
Now my transportation didn't allow for much to be done. I just gathered all the pieces I would need to build the map ahead of time and packed those in a duffelbag along with printed instructions (courtesy of VirtualScape) and went in early by car to set up. It was a small car, so I couldn't just do the norm and transport it fully built, but it was also relatively easy to build so I didn't mind. And so we played. And it was EPIC (sort of)! We dismantled the map and repacked it in the duffel bag and set that and the figures/cards and other bits (packed convenently into the RotV box) in the corner. Getting it home would be the hard part. Even if I had been able to bring the map fully built in the morning, I wasn't about to ride a bus with it like that. Even less a school bus. And even more less my school bus at the time. So I picked it up five minutes before the bell, was able to hop onto the bus first and got the front seat (more legroom there which saved a lot of hassle. So like I said, it really depends a lot on your situation. If you have a consistent ride to and from school that can hold a map on plywood/foam, then by all means take it. If not, you may need to think of something a little creative. |

A cheap and easy solution for anyone. Not everyone has access to shrinkwrap or a vaccuum storage bag.
First of all you need a sturdy board to put it on but not too heavy. thin plywood would work or heavy card board. Then take some plastic wrap (saran wrap available at your grocery store.) and wrap the board. If you want to keep it together on the way home be sure to take some extra wrap with you because that stuff really sticks together when you take it off! |

I transport 5 maps back and forth every week to my sons school. Each map is on a sheet of cardboard and I just stack them up. Works fine and it's super cheap!
