Code 4114 - UNFINISHED

NOTE: This fiction has no ending. It consists of approximately six chapters.

Greetings all. As 2011 came to a close, I finished the second fan fiction I had ever written: The Quest for Valhalla. While that tale had several main characters, one was always the main protagonist: Dan, the Mariedian from the prison moon Isadora. Dan had rebelled against his soulborg captors, been summoned by Vydar when he was nearly slain, and then returned home, back to Isadora. It is assumed that he returned, hoping to escape the prison he had known all his life.

That final story has yet to be told. I have been promising it off and on ever since I finished The Quest. There were several major problems with wrapping up Dan's story, but over the years I dealt with them one by one, until, in September of this year, I finally began writing Dan's story.

Unfortunately... the time was not yet right. After opening strong, the tale took a sharp tun around the area of chapter seven, and I knew I would have to start over.

I eventually did, and that latest iteration of Dan's tale is what I am currently working on bringing you. Meanwhile, however, I can post what I wrote back in September. As I said elsewhere, you deserve to see what was taking so long. It is also something to tide you over until the true retelling of Dan's story is released.

Note: 4114 is significantly different from my currently untitled retelling of Dan, coming soon. The story, and even the character, are completely different. Otherwise I would not post it.

The tale of Dan Beorm of Isadora went through a lot of changes. Over time, Dan went from a simple rebel to something completely different, which you will very shortly find out for yourselves. With the tale I am currently working on, I returned to the Dan I had originally created, the Dan who escaped the soulborgs of Isadora.

I now know that while writing The Quest, Dan's character was not set, and neither was the theme of the Quest (which I admit fell flat). Both of these things combined to create a false image of who Dan was. That false image is the reason it was so difficult to write his story, because I was trying to tell a story with a character who was fundamentally designed to tell the exact opposite story. Eventually I changed the character so much that he was no longer the Dan of Isadora I once wrote. He was someone else. He was...

Prologue

_____Many tales have been told upon Valhalla of how the War of the Wellsprings ended. Among the tales of noble heroes, daring plans, and despicable betrayals, however, there is one tale that has been told countless times. This is the tale of a hero of Vydar, summoned just before the war’s end. That hero’s name was Dan Beorm.
_____Over time, the tale has changed. It has been told and retold so many times that the facts have blurred. The most common retelling says that Dan came from the prison moon of Isadora, fought against the soulborgs his entire life, and eventually defeated them. Out of these three, only one is true: Dan came from Isadora. But not as a prisoner.
_____Dan was a soulborg; one of the first, merely a human with mechanical enhancements. A computer was melded with his mind, and mechanical cells flowed through his blood, repairing his body. He had created the soulborgs, and struggled all his life, not to annihilate them, but to perfect them. For that was Dan’s ultimate goal: to create a human that was in every way perfect. Immune to disease, incapable of death, wise beyond all measure. This desire of Dan’s was not born out of some false sense of arrogance. He had every reason to seek such a creation; a reason that had become a part of his being when he was seven years old.
_____How do I know these things? Dan created me. He created all of us. Every soulborg that came before me would not have been possible without him. I have all their memories, every single piece of information ever uncovered by every soulborg that ever existed. How? The answer is simple: I am the last soulborg.
_____I am Prime. I am the end result of all the research, all the experiments. Everything the soulborgs did, has led to me. If I fail, if I die, then an entire race dies with me, and all will be for naught.
_____And this is why I have compiled this tale in its true form. It is my hope that if I do not last, another will discover the information I have stored, and pick up where we left off. For I too share Dan’s single burning desire: to create perfection. We must. For without it, we are nothing.

I was about to post chapter one as well, but I figured that it was probably a good idea to wait. I am in the middle of defining Dan's character at the moment, and as the first chapter introduces some very pivotal scenes to Dan's character in 4114 (completely different characters), I thought it would be unwise to run the risk of mixing them.

Completing Dan's character should be completed easily by tomorrow. At that point I will post chapter one.
