You're addicted to printing
She's 9 years old and already is starting to not want to hang out with me most of the time so I try to take advantage of any time I can get with her. The 3d printing is really fun. I think what is making it even more fun for me lately is the fact that Im getting stuff made that I have been 3d modeling myself. My mom doesnt play many video games, but when she does, she likes a little game called "plants vs zombies". Not sure if you have played it, but its a fun little game. Rules are simple. Keep the zombie hordes out of your house by planting killer plants that kill them for you. Peashooters, squash, melon pults, you name it. So Ive been 3d printing her plants from the game over the last few years. I started printing her most of the plants I could find on thingiverse. I basically just maxxed out my printbed on the fdm printer. Most of the prints would take anywhere from 8 to 14 hrs. I eventually ran out of ones to print. Id check occassionally and find a new one here or there. Then I started learning how to successfully cut files into pieces and was able to do a few more. Im to the point now that I have been 3d sculpting and modeling any of the characters I want, cutting them down into pieces for the printer, and printing them out. The last couple of them took about 24 hrs a piece. She literally has a whole PvZ garden in her big windowsill in her kitchen. My one brother that also 3d prints has made a zombie or two from the game to join my plants. I have also painted everything that is made there. My mom is a great human being. There is easily 500hrs worth of print time sitting there. The average plant is 5 to 6 inches tall. Its totally worth it. I am also printing things of use for a bunch of different family members all the time. So Im obsessed for sure, but it brings a lot of joy to a bunch of people, and thats not counting all the plasticrack Ive made for myself.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

Got in a couple games of modern zombicide in. I beat the first few scenarios with the minimum amount of survivors without losing any of them. I played one with my nephew and played the others solo. I'm loving my new game cave setup, but it wasn't as rewarding playing them solo so I put them away. I think I'll just catch up on more painting until I can get some games in with some of my brothers later on. Zombicide is fun, but I think I'll enjoy using all the painted models more for when I get to play walking dead call to arms. I've printed out 4 squads of Dark fire designs clone marine figures to use as snowtroopers along with some models I modified for their flamethrower and ion trooper heavy weapons. They look great. I also printed out 6 more squads of the same marine files to use as either phase 1 clonetroopers or phase 2 clonetroopers. I designed heavy troopers out of the existing models to give them a z6, long rifle, mortar trooper, shotgunner, and rocket launcher option. If you run p1 clones out of the marines you can use a z6, long rifle, shotgunner, or rocket launcher as your heavy. If running them as phase 2 clones, you can use a p2 z6 or a mortar trooper. I'll be printing the actual p1's and p2's next. I have plenty of them already but the files are too cool looking to pass up. I also picked up some better looking stormtrooper models from dark fire designs. I have 8 squads of legit stormtroopers already. The heavy weapon add ons and such that I printed from another sculptor look good enough, but these ones look alot more official than those. Less blocky, cooler poses. I'll be adding my own heavy weapons to those files to remake the storm trooper upgrade pack. It'll also be fun to have a bunch of extra stormtroopers to paint up differently. I picked up some files of a bunch of different jedi/sith as well that all printed out nicely. I picked up some tabaxi looking warriors from a sculptor called artisan guild. Those models are fantastic. I think I'll start by making me a complete warband out of them. They look like sabertooth warriors with a persian theme. They'd be great for both frostgrave and ghost archipelago. I'll post a you tube link of how they look.
I've already printed 4 of them and have a bunch more on the que. Such awesome files.

Holy crap has the last few episodes of the mandalorian been so great. They put some awesome new possibilities in the last few episodes that would be wonderful for legion.

I'm caught up now, including last night's episode.

Those Dark Troopers seemed like droids and not really soldiers. I imagine they will be pretty scary when they hopefully will eventually fight.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

I finally got to play a tabletop game today after a stint of what seems like forever. Probably a month or so ago I got some modern zombicide to the table a few times with my newly painted miniatures. I played a few scenarios with my nephew when he was down. It was somewhat fun but I think I prefer the fantasy version to it. I played a scenario or two by myself afterwards and was kind of bummed and put it away. This evening my wife insisted that we play one of my games. We have all been really sick with Covid for the past few weeks. I hear that it doesn't bother some people too bad, but when it swept through my family it was pretty devastating. I still feel crumby after a couple weeks of feeling like I'm going to die. The first week was hands down the worse, but its been hanging on to us for a few weeks now with all of us feeling miserable except my daughter. My wife is sick of watching tv and said she would play a game as long as it didn't take too long. I know she likes The Walking Dead so I took the opportunity to try out Walking Dead Call to arms. I let her pick group first. She picked the Atlanta Group picking Rick, Shane, Tyrese, and Michonne. I picked Negans group and picked Negan, Laura, Dwight, Sherry, and also patrick from the generic ruthless group of survivors. It was a simple skirmish where I proceeded to run my entire group down the center of the board and shoot up half of her survivors before closing in on them and beating them to death with Negan bearing lucille at the lead. I won by VP's handily but also killed enough of her crew to win by the end of round 4. It was ok. It was a bit better than All out war rules wise, but just seemed really anti climatic. It was kind of Meh to play. I'll have to admit, I've been in a funk lately. The crap weather, the constant sickness, and the lack of general fun has really put a crunch on me. At least I got the urge to play the walking dead out of my system for the time being. I think out of the different skirmish wargames I have, I think Legion has the superior battle system. I have 3d printed a ton of legion stuff that needs paint. I may also get a game of legion in maybe tomorrow if my brother can make it out to my place. Hope you all had a good christmas and are having more games and fun than I'm experiencing at the moment.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

Sorry @TREX to hear that your family got Covid and that it hit you so hard. I know a lot of people whove had it. Some only ever had minor symptoms for a few days. Some were sick for a couple weeks. I know at least 5 people that were hospitalized by it and 3 of them spent time in ICU for a week. One guy, who retired as our hospital's carpenter maybe 8 years ago, is in our hospital and as of last Wednesday when I was at work last, was doing really bad with O2 levels in the 70s. The doctors said it doesn't look good. His girlfriend is a CNA on his floor and gave us the scoop. His 22 year old grandson who lives with him was going out to bars and acting like an idiot that doesn't take Covid seriously. Well he got it (I don't know how bad) and gave it to Kenny. If Kenny doesn't make it, that kid has to live with what his carelessness did.

But I hope you and your family start to feel better soon. I know for some people it can have lasting effects. Just keep strong and fight through it as best you can.

This year has sucked. I saw my sister and mom for the futile since my grandmother passed away in October. My sister lives on the next block but we are being extra careful. But since my mom had been living with our grandmother, we didn't want her to be alone one Christmas. Just the 2 of us stopped by (mom lives an hour away) for a few hours and had a nice visit.

As far as gaming, I've been playing through a campaign book for Fallout Wasteland Warfare. I've gotten through 6 of the 10 or so scenarios. I'm going to take a break fromnthat campaign because I want to try out the Raiders faction since I recently painted up 10 of their models. Maybe have them go against the Super Mutants. I had also played 7 games of Elder Scrolls Call to Arms, the Skyrim version of Fallout but very different in many ways. I have some more models for that game to paint.

I have a ton to paint for Legion, but since it will be a while before I het to play versus my buddy Brian, I am concentrating on clearing out some other unpainted models from Fallout and soon Elder Scrolls.

Take care of yourself and your family Trex.
