C3G RPG Campaign Games for TTS

Hi everybody, I thought of some neat RPG rules for a campaign style of C3G games in TTS. Let me know what you think and if you'd wanna play. I could definitely play as storyteller.

These can be edited with feedback, nothing's set in stone.

Re: C3G RPG Campaign Games for TTS

RULES

Game Setup:
The first game starts with drafting the player army up to a total of the agreed upon Campaign points, usually 1,000. In a snake pattern after rolling the d20, each player drafts at least one army card, starting at 250 points or less. If a player drafts less than 250, that is considered excess points the next player may add to the possible drafting options. For example if a player drafts Batman I for 200, the next player may draft Wonder Woman I for 300. Whenever a new player joins the player team, they are always given the opportunity to choose a new 250 point or less character to add into the player army pool.

With the exception of single game rewards, the player army always consists of a maximum of 4 Unique Heroes and a minimum of 1 Unique Hero per player. Synergies listed on cards are shared even though the cards are controlled by different players. The player army must have 1 Order Marker each on a card each player controls, unless the group decides differently.

Campaign Setup:
Each game has a storyteller, the storyteller is responsible for setting up the campaign and playing the enemy army. The enemy army may not always work together, for instance the player team may encounter some Cursed Earth Rexes in the woods, before going against the main baddies in the castle. There are other variations I’m sure that could pop up as well. Whatever tells the best story wins out.

In addition, not all enemy army pieces will be revealed at the beginning of the game. For example, the storyteller may want to keep the level’s designated endboss hidden in a baggie until all other enemies are defeated. Or perhaps not all of a common squad begins on the board, with more crawling out of the woodwork. In these instances, rulings may be that these figures must be placed in the enemy start zone, out of clear sight, or out of range between rounds. Players only need to know what level of the campaign they are on (the total points they are going against).

Each campaign will have a difficulty level. A Level 1 Campaign will have an enemy army that is the same cost as the opponents army, Level 2 will start with half say 500 against 1,000, and then a second level of the same cost enemy army. Level 3 with a 1,000 point player army would run against 500, then 750, then 1,000 and so on. This sounds easy, you might say, what makes it so much more difficult. Well, that will be answered in the next section.

At the end of a campaign, a new player may choose to be storyteller or the storyteller can remain the same person.

Level Setup:
Each level should function like a well prepared scenario. It is up to the storyteller to make sure the levels are engaging and fun.
The first level of the first game players will play the figures that they drafted, beyond the very first level players may choose any card from the player pool that they wish to play as, again in a snake pattern after rolling the d20.

At the start of the game, before the first round each player will place a blue start zone token on any spot on the board. These spots are Extraction Points. Extraction Points are one time use spaces that when landed on, a player may choose to heal or swap out a Hero. Throughout the game as Heroes receive wounds, players will want to heal them using extraction points or swap them out entirely to avoid losing the figure. If a player figure is destroyed, that figure leaves the pool and cannot be redrafted/repurchased with rare exception. Don’t worry, there should be enough opportunities at the extraction points and special end of campaign rewards where this will not often set the team back. Players also have an opportunity to heal any wounds between levels and wounds at the ends of campaigns are removed.

Points and Rewards:
Earning points is simply a matter of KOing enemy figures. If a figure is KOed by the actions of a player, that player earns the points on that figure’s card, or the fraction of points if it is a squad figure. Other ways to earn points may be added in at the storyteller’s discretion. Points can mainly be used to purchase new cards and heal figures. Keep in mind that while the individual player chooses what to spend points on, the figures healed and purchased are always part of the player pool; everyone benefits. It is the responsibility of the players to track points.

The cost to purchase Unique army cards, which may be done between levels, is
The costs to heal Life at extraction points and between levels are as follows: 1 Life - 0 points, 2 Life - 5 points, 3 Life - 15 points, 4 Life - 30 points, 5 Life - 50 points, 6 Life - 75 points, and so on using the point calculator totals.
Keep in mind you do not need to heal all wounds, if you only want to or can afford to heal less you can.

Next is rewards, at the end of each level there should be at least one reward for each player. They don’t have to be big, and in the first level they shouldn’t be, but there should be enough to go around. At the end of the level, either rewards will be revealed and players will roll the d20 to see who gets what or they will be randomly handed out. The rewards after the last level should be substantial. Unlike points, rewards are restricted to each player, this way if a player didn’t rake in a lot of points in a level, they still gain something in the end.

Examples of typical rewards would be as follows, example used is a Level 3 Campaign
Level 1: small caches of points
Level 2: an minor equipment glyph, a one level use Common card (amount decided by the storyteller)
Level 3: a powerful equipment glyph, a free Unique Hero, an Event Hero purchase opportunity, destroyed Unique card revival or repurchase opportunity

Important notes:
Since leveling up stats would be ridiculous, glyphs essentially replace this rpg function. They may only be given or traded between players between campaigns and are not part of the pool.
Common cards may be played by players, but do not enter the pool. If they are purchased or rewarded, they are single level use.
Event cards are only rewarded or purchasable as rewards and are not typically purchasable.

Further notes:
In a typical campaign, you are going to be playing the “heroes”, hence why you are only knocking out opponents (and they can pop up again in future levels), while they have no problem with permanently removing Player Army figures from the game. Another side note here is if a very, very villainous character is drafted or rewarded, either the storyteller or player drafting should come up with a quick excuse for why this character is working for the “good team”.

Additional rules and interactions can be added overtime depending on what the game group decides, this is just a base game idea.
