Finished up this morning against
@
Tiamat
, who was a pleasure to play with and chat with after the game!
The matchup was
tiamat: Kuthnak, Marcu Esenwein, Nerak the Glacian Swog Rider, Death Chasers of Theskx4, Ogre Pulverizer
vs
s1r: Isamu, Krav Maga Agents, Moltenclaw, Greenscale Warriorsx3
tiamat chose his DC build first, and I followed with the GSWs/MC. I think the DC build is pretty powerful (especially with boiling blood giving AOE!), but the DC's have low defense that I thought would be a perfect target for MC's special since it can reach out 4 spaces from the target just like Nerak's aura and Kuthnak's activation range. Plus I thought having the KMA in the endgame would be helpful with the rivers, frequent height change at the map edges, and sniping spots by the SZ.
Short story is Moltenclaw rushing near the Valda glyph across from tiamat's start zone challenged tiamat's DC/Nerak development. Some solid rolls for his special and the initiative switch (that never went back) helped MC take out Nerak and 8 of the 12 DCs by the end of RD2, OM1 while losing just one GSW. That left me in position to hold height with Greenscales screening at the base above the river and giving MC room to operate and cleanup with both melee and his special.
Long story in the spoiler.
Spoiler Alert!
Tiamat started off using battle rush to move death chasers into the water and one towards Wannok, preparing for the plateau by valda across from his start zone. He won initiative and moved Kuthnak into the water. If he took Valda and boiled blood he would be sending 5A DC missiles 10 spaces away into my start zone. I moved Moltenclaw onto the snow near the single glacier with two green escorts and one into the water near Wannok. He moved Nerak into a great spot hidden behind the ruin while covering the glyph with defense aura. Two DC's hid behind the ruin with him while one took the ice path towards me. I moved Moltenclaw up and used his special to take out bot DCs at the ruins DCs and put two on Nerak with a 3/4 roll and tiamat's consistent 1/4 on Def. I moved two Greenies up in front to screen try and get a 3v4 wound with one to finish Nerak but whiffed. The next turn Nerak came down to grab Valda and attack MC, who fended off both him and a on a critical roll blocked a 3/4 attack from a DC with a 3/3. On the fianl turn of the round, I left MC in position (no high ground next to him) and with a 2/4 on his special took out Nerak and one of the two DCs that had engaged him. With my now unengaged Greenie I moved him up the plateau to hold Kuthnak down and whiffed while another Greenie took out the remaining DC on the plateau.
The next round I got the initiative switch and with a 4/4 A took out a row of 4 DCs with Moltenclaw. I took Valda with one GSW and moved another to the front of the plateau to block DC attacks of 4 on MC if they could climb up. After that attack and blocked attempt on Kuthnak from height attack there were 4 DCs left and a 3 life Kuthnak, Ogre Pulverizer, and Marcu against my starting army down one GSW. It was a tough situation for tiamat, so he went for it filling up the river with his guys and removed both GSW who were just outside MC's aura. MC flew down and attacked the straight line of DC's and Kuthnak in the river with a 2/4A and took out all the DCs. I moved my top GSW in the river onto Wannok with the help of Valda, then moved up another GSW for support, and moved off Valda to engage Kuthnak from height and add a wound. The last DC left moved behind the glacier after moving the Ogre in around the double 4 height snow. I flew MC over to directly engage the OP and got 3 on him with a 3/6A and a 3D whiff. I retook Valda, moved up a GSW, and finished off Kuthnak. MC took 4 wounds on two 5A vs. 3D when the OP moved onto snow height. Wannok went onto Marcu to end the round.
I won initiative again and with a 5v3 finished off the 3 life OP and moved Greenscales towards the last DC who blocked an attack. The DC from below put one more on MC. MC's 6A took care of him on OM2, and I moved up GSW to surround Marcu. The OP being out cost two OMS, and I moved up my Krav out of the start zone in case Marcu went flying around and life draining himself into survival. He took Wannok again.
I won the next round for initiative, and once MC flew over he ended Marcu and the game.
