NHSD: SoCal Slaughter! 2018
NHSD: SoCal Slaughter! 2018
All is negotiable!
First you must quickly let us know if Saturday, 11/3, is not possible.
All right, I've copied and pasted last year's info below, changing the date.
Let me know what you guys think about format ... the good and the bad.
And please give us an idea of whether you plan on attending, can't make it or just don't know.
Thanks!
NHSD: SoCal Slaughter! 2018
Hello all diehard 'scapers,
Saturday, 11-03-2018, again at warriorneedsfoodbadly's apartment complex rec. room at
14960 Sherman Way, Olive Tree Apartments, Van Nuys, 91405.
Hours are 8AM 11PM. If necessary we may enter before 8AM.
There are enough tables/chairs for 14 games, so if more than 28 contestants sign up, we'll need more equipment.
Anyone wanting to stay for more gaming after the tournament is more than welcome!
There is a small kitchen for food prep, and storage.
There is a boys' restroom and a girls' restroom.
If you want alcohol, we suggest you wait until after the tournament and bring your own supply.
There is a good deal of parking (do not use the church parking at the Kester intersection),
but try and carpool because there is a lot of competition for those spots.
Location: warriorneedsfoodbadly's clubhouse in Van Nuys ( map)
Date: Saturday, 11/3
Time: 11:00 AM check-in, 12:00 PM begin play, tournament until 4:00 PM or 5:00 PM (no breaks for food, so bring lunch/snacks!), free play and pizza (not free) afterwards
Anything in PURPLE is still a rough guesstimate; your opinions on these items in particular are solicited.
Rules:
Format: team play (either 2v2 or 2v1), timed matches, as many rounds as necessary, swiss/simple, partial scoring; see full rules below
Cost: $8 per contestant for prizes and rental of space.
Armies: 520pts, 24 spaces, with restricted lists
VC: Allowed.
Marvel: Allowed
Glyphs: see below ( original source)
Must Bring: Primary army; army cards; dice; order markers; wound markers; special markers if appropriate.
Can Bring: Extra army/ies (with cards); snacks/drinks; a contribution to the prize table.
Team Play Format:
Spoiler Alert!
- Each player brings one primary army: 520 pts, 1 restricted primary unit/300pts for commons, 1 restricted filler unit.
- Any player may bring one or more extra armies; extra armies go into the "army pool." Extra armies follow the same rules as primary armies except that they cannot include a restricted primary unit (1 restricted filler unit still okay).
- Each game will consist of 2 players on one side and either 1 or 2 players on the other. 2 players == "team play"; 1 player == "solo play."
- Solo players will use their primary army, and must choose one extra army from the pool (see below). The solo player plays both armies completely separately: separate initiative, separate order markers, for each army units in the other army are "friendly" but not "that you control."
- Team players are allies, and default to each using their primary army. However, they may, after consultation, replace one of their armies with an extra army (see below).
- Solo play is assigned as follows:
- There will be only as many games with solo players as is necessary to ensure that all players can participate in each tourney round.
- 6 players 2v1, 2v1
- 7 players 2v2, 2v1
- 8 players 2v2, 2v2
- 9 players 2v1, 2v1, 2v1
- 10 players 2v2, 2v1, 2v1
- 11 players 2v2, 2v2, 2v1
- 12 players 2v2, 2v2, 2v2
- 13 players 2v2, 2v1, 2v1, 2v1
- etc
- In tourney round #1, only players who have placed 2nd or higher in a previous tourney are eligible. Solo players, if required, are drawn randomly from those eligible.
- In tourney round #2, only players who have a win in the previous round are eligible for solo play. At the discretion of the tourney directors, more inexperienced players can be removed from eligibility.
- In tourney rounds #3 and those following, only players who have no losses in previous tourney rounds are eligible for solo play. If there are no such players, only players who have a single loss are eligible, and so forth.
- In all tourney rounds beyond the first, players who have played solo in previous rounds are removed from eligibility unless that would reduce the count of eligible players to an insufficient number.
- At the beginning of each game, after map and partner/opponent assignments, requests for armies from the pool are made:
- A request is made by writing the player name and the requested army name on a piece of paper.
- Each opposing side may make a single request. Solo players must make a request; team players may either make a request (for one partner, though both may consult on the decision) or may "bluff" by submitting a blank request, or a request with "N/A" or "none" written on it.
- Requests from solo players go into one stack; requests from team players go into another.
- Requests from solo players are drawn at random first, then requests from team players are drawn at random. Blank (bluff) requests are simply ignored.
- For each draw, if the requested army is still in the pool, that player receives that army. Team players are committed to use the pool army if they receive it.
- For each draw, if the requested army is not still in the pool, the requesting player may choose any army left in the pool instead, or a team player may choose to abandon their request and fall back to keeping their primary army.
- Each game is played on a combo map, which consists of two standard tournament maps which are combined via a few extra terrain pieces, which act as a "bridge" between the two maps. On the bridge terrain are 1 random power glyph and 2 random treasure glyphs, all symbol-side up; see glyph list below.
- Games are played for 75 minutes or until one pair of armies is destroyed.
- At the end of each game:
- Partial scoring for the two armies on each side determines the winner. Only points actually remaining on the board count: units that leave the board or never get to it in the first place (including but not limited to: undropped AE, unsummoned rechets, clinging gnids, and Mok-riding dwarves) don't contribute towards your points.
- After determining the winner, record win/loss, solo/team, and official points on the player's record sheet. Every player on each side records the total remaining points for both armies on that side.
- At the end of the tournament:
- Record strength-of-schedule. Each of your opponents' solo wins count as 2; each team win counts as 1.
- Overall winner is determined by swiss/simple method as normal.
