Re: Gimli - Rough Draft

Design Thoughts:
I don't know about this one. Gimli's a hard character to attack because by default he gets Dwarven Bonding from the Axegrinders. He needs to be good as one of the three hunters and a renowned fighter, but not so good that he becomes overpowered when combined with Bonding.

Gimli is a beast in melee combat, so I felt that Dwarven Assault should be the centerpiece of him as a fighter. Whirlwind Assault or Double Attack are both good for different reasons, be it swarms or taking down a tough hero, but access to both would make him highly effective. Fearless Advantage is a carryover from the Axegrinder, but it seemed appropriate given the battles against Wolves, the Watcher in the Water, Cave Trolls, and Swogs throughout the Fellowship of the Ring. Lastly for melee efficiency is a power that gives a defense boost while engaged. Tough might be too good and Melee Defense 1 too bad, so it seemed a happy medium. Plus it made sense with getting defense while engaged even against Range since dwarves are small and can get lost in the heat of battle rather easily. I'm not satisfied with the current power name though. At present it could be dropped easily.

5 Life and 5 Move seem fine for a stout fighter. 4/4 is average for a Hero, with the capacity to get up to 5/6 depending on circumstance. He should be ideal for melee combat against Squads and Heroes alike, opposite Legolas' being ideal for ranged combat. 160 points is around Siege range given similar stats and surround attacking. Fighter could be traded for Champion or Adventurer, while Fearless could be traded for Reckless or Disciplined.

Other Power Ideas:
Throwing Hatchet SA: In the films Gimli uses small throwing hatchets to great effect. A ranged SA would be good for versatility, though both Range and SAs are considered dangerous when accounting for Axegrinder bonding.
Fellowship or Three Hunter Bonding: Likely OM-revealed Movement Bonding for easier use of either adventuring party. I'm definitely feeling this due to it giving him separation from Axegrinders.
Defense Buff Mark II: Tough, Melee Defense. Dwarves are well know for being fire-resistant, so perhaps even some form of protection against SAs
Fearless Advantage: Obvious choice for theme for a reckless fighter dwarf

Let the workshopping begin!
