The point about water separating the glyphs to slow down the acquisition of both is true, but it does pose less of a hassle in a ranged vs melee match-up where one side could potentially pester the other off of their glyph sooner (and there's always the possibility that the glyph on "your side" isn't as useful to your army as your opponent's is). It definitely seems like a very interesting map to play on depending on those two glyphs, though.
