I'm not an authority on the subject but my understand is the only thing Hasbro has patten rights to as it relates to terrain is the shape of the interlocking parts. You can't reproduce the same locking mechanism and try to sell it as your own product. The hex shape open for anyone to use and the stacking of pieces on top of each other is as well. So leave the locking mechanism off entirely or create a new locking mechanism of your own design.
