Swordsman is by no means set in stone. Warrior would fit.

Kenshi was introduced in Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, which is the 5th game in the series, back in 2002. He's been in nearly every game since, and is regarded as one of, if not the most popular characters introduced post trilogy.
