Re: Welcome to C3G! – Directory
Here
Spoiler Alert!
Unique Hero of the Year:
Honorable mentions to IamBatman's Riddler(II) and Arch-Vile's Winter Soldier(II). The former being an interesting and unique take, and the latter being the perfect Cap combo. Yodaking's Hulk(II) would be my pick though. Super fun design.
Event Hero of the Year:
Quozl's Godzilla. Very cool to see him in the game.
Uncommon Hero of the Year:
Green Lanterns. Nice cheap addition to the faction.
Personal LD of the Year:
Honorable mentions to Aquaman(III), Martian Manhunter(III), and Zatanna(III). All lots of fun. Ultimately I'd probably go with Doctor Fate(II), as he feels completely unique in everything he does, but it's hard for me to choose.
Glyph of the Year:
Sharknado seems fun.
Mechanical Innovation of the year:
Flip cards seem like a fun way to represent some things better, and it has helped me realize a couple designs I wasn't sure how to capture.
Rules Innovation of the year:
The shortening of leaps etc. to have the Flying power.
Release of the Year:
Festival of Lights. Worked super hard on this one personally along with many others, and it was great to see what started out as a crazy idea come into reality. Also great to see so much needed expansion among the colors, especially the Reds. Now each of them can be played as cohesive armies which is great.
Public Design of the Year:
Archie's Green Arrow(II). This was an important turn around point for the Justice League. Out of all the JL marker hubs, he's probably the most essential to draft, and he's a lot of fun to play.
Faction of the Year:
Champions/Justice League. The Justice League was probably my biggest disappointment of my entire design history, and that sucked because they were such a struggle/passion project when I first started. Martian Manhunter(II) felt like a disappointment in hindsight, and I just didn't enjoy playing the faction having different class hoops you had to jump through that not every hub benefitted from, and the overall high point games you had to play to even get a decent team going. Thankfully, with Green Arrow(II) and Wonder Woman(III) being created, a corner was turned that I capitalized on with many Champion versions of characters that combined with all previous JL hubs, have now really made them not just viable competitively, but really fun to play. The Rogues would be my honorable mention, as they are in a similar boat of rags to riches.
Moment of the Year:
Playing games on TTS. Designing is fun, but I appreciate being able to play the things we work so hard on, and seeing things come together. Fun, close matches, mean we're doing things right. It's also nice to see how others play things and learn things that may be getting done wrong etc.
Art Accomplishment of the Year:
I like seeing the increase in creativity this year with some cards. The best ones feel natural, and really bring out the character's personality/powers without feeling out of place or forced. Soundwarp's Ghost Rider(Caleb) card is probably in my top 10 favorite art designs ever done. It enhances the comic art and the colors are perfect.
Personal Art Accomplishment of the Year:
I felt really proud with Plastic Man(II)'s card. That took me hours to get just the way I wanted it. Other notable stand outs that I really loved were the Terminator cards, Hulk(II), Venom(Rocket), Zatanna(III), and Gorilla Grodd(II). All cards that felt like a labor of love rather than just necessity.
Helper of the Year:
IamBatman with the combination of testing, commenting/engagement, wave planning, and planning/down payment for C3G Con. All around, still a foundation for the project after all these years. Everyone else deserves mention and credit as well. It took a lot of effort from a lot of people to make such a productive year happen.
Public Contribution of the Year:
Allies as a whole. Testing, engaging, creating workshops, and LDing. Hope to see people take it even further and become reliable testers and really sink their teeth into more LDs. Jump out from the pack and claim your Sidekick status, then help us from the inside!
Surprise of the year:
Arch-Vile stepping up to be such a testing powerhouse. I've always appreciated those who walk the walk rather than just talk to talk. Testing is, alongside art, chief among the absolute necessities to keep things going, and is crucial to upholding the balance of the overall game. So it's great to have another rock star tester around to see things move consistently while attaining solid feedback and analysis with experience to back it up.
