Re: Koolster25's Customs
It's always nice to see a new face putting out customs. Thank you for sharing these. There are definitely plenty of cool classic units that don't quite work out competitively so it's sometimes nice to make some other units to give them the support that they need. Have you checked out the units by C3V? They have put out some units that really round out some of the old classics.
I particularly enjoy some of your new squads. You have a lot of interesting ideas here. I'll put my two cents of each unit in the spoiler below.
Spoiler Alert!
Emperor Akiova
The Einar Imperium are easily one of my favorite squads in the game, they're just so challenging to get them to be anywhere near worth their high point cost. This Kyrie Warrior certainly goes a long way in helping them (simple bonding goes a long way to solve a lot of problems), but I fear he may be a bit too good even without the Imperium. When compared to another efficient Kyrie Warrior like Concan, he has better life and Stealth Flying on top of his superior bonuses that he offers for the same price. His aura is certainly very powerful, although I find it a little unusual that you have the choice between 2 defense or the auto-shield. I'd probably play it safe most of the time, but it is an interesting design decision at the very least.
Galvard Viking Warriors
These guys are really interesting and provided a bonus that I hadn't seen before. I like the idea that with a hot set of dice they can roll over the battlefield between charges and charging strikes. I can see them being pretty swingy with ultimately unreliable power, high attack and low survivability on a Unique Squad, but it's probably a blast to get them rolling. Some games I'm sure they'll be near unstoppable while others they'll get wiped out before they can do much of anything, although that's the nature of the game sometimes.
Erik the Berserker
This is a hard-hitting Warlord to go along with your vikings. Bonding off of heroes isn't something that quite gets done in normal Heroscape, but it really is the easiest way to patch over some old squads. Berserker Charge and Battle Frenzy are an interesting pairing that unfortunately still fall shorts of a full frenzy, but it looks fun at the very least. I like how you really capture a reckless and offensive feel for this viking faction with their higher attacks and lower defense.
Te-Kal-Ga
In a Marro army, Loyalty to the Hive makes this Warlord a force to be reckoned with, all the more annoying when coupled with Imminent Threat. Ranged limitations are always interesting since the enemy can simply close the distance to attack the targets they want, although it will still definitely throw a wrench in the gears of many armies. The Marro Mind Link gives a substantial movement bonus to the Grok Riders who are presumably moving and bonding with him anyway. I'd be mindful of Imminent Threat overall. It is possible that this speedy warlord's best use is instead standing next to Raelin behind a screen of some sort and soaking up ranged attacks that would otherwise be focused on more important parts of your army.
Selene Connour
It looks like a lot of fun to match her up with her sister. Even something as subtle as having more Shadow tiles available can go a long way for increasing their maneuverability. I also like the theme behind her Shadow Assassination Special Attack where she uses Shadow purely to her advantage and denies the benefit to her enemies.
Shadow Spawns
I almost missed how they will be helping Mika Connour by increasing the number of shadow tiles on the board. As a squad, they seemingly aren't that impressive for their cost but they can be night impossible to take out if there is enough shadow on the board. For Spring from the Shadows, is the intention when you reveal a numbered order marker from this card or from any card in your army (so you guaranteed try 3 times per round for each shadow space). Since you can place order markers on dead army cards, is the intention for them to be able to come back even if they are all wiped out? I think they are very interesting and cool, although I am a little wary that their Spring from the Shadows power can make them a never-ending opponent on the right maps.
