I would always bring pre-built armies for my group. Sometimes we would randomly draw teams or I'd let the other 2 people pick and I'd be stuck with what was left.

Playing with themes/teams was always fun for us. So many fun 1000 pt groups. Wrecking Crew, Fantastic Four, X-men, Brotherhood of Mutants, Agents, Crime Fighters, way too many more to list.
