'Star Trek HeroClix: Away Team 7-Figure Pack'
From WizKids in July
Published: 01/25/2012, Last Updated: 01/26/2012 03:11am
ICv2 has learned that WizKids is planning a second Star Trek HeroClix release for 2012 in July. The Star Trek HeroClix: Away Team 7-Figure Pack features seven figures with new HeroClix dials that will allow gamers to play as Kirk, Spock, McCoy, or others in a game that takes its inspiration from J.J. Abrams’ popular Star Trek movie reboot.
The Star Trek HeroClix: Away Team 7-Figure Pack is 100% compatible with the core HeroClix rulebook and the standard “Powers and Abilities” card.
In February WizKids is releasing Star Trek HeroClix: Tactics, a starship combat game that features more than pre-painted 20 starship models will be available in both Starter Set and Booster Boxes (see “Star Trek HeroClix: Tactics”).

HeroClix - Star Trek: Away Team 7-Figure Pack
|
Spoiler Alert!
With Star Trek Clix on the horizon, now is the time to get cards ready. (Thanks to Old Rough and Ready for kick-starting the discussion!)
Goals of TrekScape:
1) To have a collection of mainstream Star Trek Custom Cards that are 100% compatible with each other and all of the official Heroscape License.
2) For each custom card to accurately reflect the character or characters on its facing and to maintain a thematic feel to its design.
TrekScape Moderator:
mac122
The Moderator's duties include maintaining the first page of the thread with information on the current card in discussion and posting of completed cards. The Moderator must also strive to keep the discussion on topic and moving forward.
TrekScape Commanders:
Old Rough and Ready
Sir Galahad
Felindar
Ryougabot
wulfhunter667
mac122
Commanders duties include initial card design, discussion, and voting. If a Commander is not interested in providing initial card designs, they may request to become a Lieutenant Commander. Commanders should playtest our designs whenever possible.
TrekScape Lieutenant Commanders
pjnormandin
lefton4ya
Lieutenant Commanders duties include discussion and voting. LCs who show a commitment to the project through frequent posting and taking part in discussions may request a promotion to Commander. Lt. Commanders should playtest our designs whenever possible.
TrekScape Ensigns
Jdet
dfonse
Boodog
Olloch the Glutton
Ensigns duties include discussion. Any interested member of the community may request to be a TrekScape Ensign. Ensigns who show a commitment to the project through frequent posting and taking part in discussions may request a promotion to Lieutenant Commander. Ensigns should playtest our designs whenever possible. Playtesting, like regular posting, will be taken into account for those Ensigns asking to be promoted to Lt. Commander.
Additional TrekScape Threads and Chief Engineers
TrekScape Academy - the display page and "Books of..." index for TrekScape figures - wulfhunter667, Chief Engineer
TrekScape Prime Directives - special and optional rules discussion for TrekScape - SirGalahad, Chief Engineer
TrekScape Away Missions - TrekScape maps and scenarios - mac122, Chief Engineer

Rules:
1) Each TrekScape Commander in turn will choose a figure they wish to create. That figure must be chosen from list of available characters from the TV or Movie Series that is currently being worked on. The order in which the Commanders make their choice will be determined randomly by the Moderator (the Moderator will be last in the rotation). Once the figure has been chosen, the Commander presents a draft of the design in this thread for the community to critique. When the creator feels the design is ready, they may call for a vote to send the design to the playtesting phase. Once the vote has been called for, Commanders and Lt. Commanders have 48 hours to vote. A simple majority is required to pass the design. If in 48 hours, less than half the Commanders and Lt. Commanders have voted, then the voting will be extended for an additional 24 hours. At the end of the additional time, a simple majority of all votes cast will pass the design (even if less than half the voting membership has cast a vote). If a design fails to pass, it will return for more discussion and another vote. Once voting is complete, the design will enter the playtesting phase and the Moderator will select another Commander to present the next design. Once a design has been playtested per the Playtesting Guidelines, the original creator may call for a vote. Once passed, the design will be carded and posted.
Playtesting Guidelines
Spoiler Alert!
Please follow these guidelines when playtesting a TrekScape figure.
1) Test the figure on a map that has a variety of terrain, elevation, and obstacles that a figure would commonly encounter in the game of 'Scape. If you can, it is preferred that you attempt to use BoV maps as they provide more accurate results. Test the design against melee and ranged units as well.
2) Playtest the figure in the following scenarios:
- play a minimum of three 1 on 1 matches against heroes with similar point values.
- play at least three 1 on 1 matches against squads with a similar point value. If no similarly priced squads exist, you may use more than one squad in your test. Partial squads are acceptable against lower point figures.
- Play the figure at least twice in an army. Each test should use a different army. The figure should have a place in each army based on its intended role; it is not to be thrown into any "A+ stuff" army as an afterthought. Both armies should be fairly balanced, remember its not which army wins, its how well the figure performed.
3) Provide a detailed post on your playtest. Include the positives and negatives of the figure's design that you found while playing.
4) State whether or not you feel the figure is ready to pass as an official unit with either a YES or NO vote.
Also when playtesting a figure be sure to check the following:
- THEME TEST: Check to see if there are any powers or stats on the test unit card that does not accurately reflect the theme or likeness of what the character would and could do. Also consider destructible objects, and whether or not this characters powers should affect them.
- MIRROR TEST: Check to see if the unit were played against itself, if there would be any loops that would upset the balance of the Game.
- BONDING TEST: Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing Bonding abilities to make sure there are no continual Bonding possibilities that do not stop appropriately or do not stop at all. This is to prevent loops in Bonding.
- SYNERGIES TEST: Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing synergies to make sure there are no factors that could break the game by making any unit to powerful or too weak.
- POWER CHECK: Consider the test unit and all existing units and all glyphs to compare to and check for any powers that could be over amplified and break the game. Each power must define when it takes place, who or what it affects, and What are the stipulations on the power if there are any.
- FUN TEST: Consider whether or not the design was fun to play.
- FUN COMPETITIVE TEST: Consider whether or not the design was fun to play against.
- DRAFTING TEST: Consider whether or not this design is worth drafting.
- USAGE TEST: Consider whether or not all of the powers on this card were used or at least usable.
- STRATEGY TEST: Consider whether or not the design offers any real strategy or interesting tactics to the overall game.
Any member of Heroscapers.com may playtest a figure from TrekScape, and you're efforts are greatly appreciated. 5 playtests should be completed for each design before a vote. However, if the first 3 playtesters reach the same conclusions about a figure, it may then be presented for a vote. If it passes it is an official unit, if not it will be returned to the design thread for revisions. Point cost adjustments do not require a return to design, but will require retesting at the new cost.
2) The discussion will be open to the entire community, but only TrekScape Commanders may present card designs and only Commanders and Lt. Commanders may vote.
3) The cards created will be compatible with Classic Heroscape, but will not use the Classic Generals. Instead, we will use factions: Starfleet, Federation, Klingon Empire, Romulan Star Empire, Borg Collective, Ferengi Alliance, Cardassian Union, Dominion, Maquis, Bajoran, Xindi, Andorian Empire, Vulcan, Nonaligned. We will also use a custom card template designed by Felindar with input from the other members.
4) This process should be structured but fun. Respect for others is imperative. It’s OK to disagree, but do it in a civil manner.
