Re: The Book of Venom (Eddie Brock) (II) (Waiting for Initia
C3G STANDARD PLAYTEST FEEDBACK FORM
NAME OF THE PLAYTEST UNIT: Venom (Eddie Brock) (II)
Army Test
Map: Custom
Units: Venom (Eddie) (II) @250, Crime-Master, Street Thugs x2, Blanka (700) vs Cyclops (I), Angel (Warren), Jean Grey, Gypsy, Jubilee (700)
Spoiler Alert!
Venom came roaring out of the gate (after Blanka ran out and got taken down) by putting 3 wounds on Jean in one hit, but got bogged down by Psionic Grip and worn down. Honestly, I should probably just stop testing with Jean.
Didn't repeat this particular test, though. Wanted to play with Crime-Master since it's one of Venom's few paper synergies, but it doesn't make it easy to use Lethal Protector, so it doesn't feel like a great use of Eddie.
Unit Summary: - Damage Done (Normal Attack): 3 wounds to Jean in 1 attack, 1 wound to Jubilee in 1 attack (destroyed)
- Symbiote Clamber: assisted movement throughout, subtracted from Jean's defense 1 time
- Lethal Protector: not used
- Unstoppable Resilience: prevented 4 wounds from Jean's normal attack, 2 wounds from Telekinesis
- Damage Taken/UR: 7 wounds from Jean in 4 attacks (destroyed), 0 wounds from Jubilee in 1 attack
Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Cyclops with 1 wound, Gypsy with 1 wound, Angel unwounded

Units: Venom (Eddie) (II) @250, Star-Lord, Robot, Angel (Warren), Robin (Dick) (900) vs Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Black Tarantula (900)
Spoiler Alert!
Strong showing for Venom here at first, but some of his later attack rolls failed to connect. Robin also dropped to the first attack against him, so that didn't help.
Venom has a pretty big target on his back due to Lethal Protector (and just generally being kind of a cannon), and he can take wounds fast if his opponents are rolling hot, but enemy attack rolls weren't so hot in the back half of the game, and he managed to shrug off a lot of middling attacks. (Of course, he was also not attacking that well for that stretch of the game, so it didn't help him make a comeback).
Unit Summary: - Damage Done (Normal Attack): 4 wounds to Spider-Man in 1 attack (destroyed), 3 wounds to Ms. Marvel in 3 attacks
- Symbiote Clamber: used for movement throughout. Subtracted from Spider-Man's defense 1 time, Ms. Marvel's defense 3 times
- Lethal Protector: 1 roll against Black Tarantula, 0 wounds.
- Unstoppable Resilience: prevented 2 wounds from Black Tarantula, 3 wounds from Ms. Marvel
- Damage Taken/UR: 3 wounds from Black Tarantula in 2 attacks, 4 wounds from Ms. Marvel in 5 attacks (destroyed)
Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Ms. Marvel with 2 wounds, Black Tarantula unwounded

Units: Venom (Eddie) (II) @250, Enchantress (II), Enchant (600) vs Batman (I), Nite Owl, Robin (Dick), Huntress (600)
Spoiler Alert!
Really hot d20 for both sides in this game: Batman evaded 2/4 of Venom's attacks and 2/2 of Enchantress's attacks! Meanwhile, Enchantress never missed a roll to bond with Venom.
The dynamic with Enchantress (II) is very much already "try and kill the bodyguard first", but Venom heightens that even further: even when he wasn't directly adjacent to Amora, he was often able to position himself 2 spaces away so that a figure would have to risk Lethal Protector to go for a wound on Amora (not generally worth it). And of course, when he was adjacent to Amora, she was effectively unattackable: MD to reduce the wounds to 1, Beauty and the Brawn to bounce the wound to Venom, Unstoppable Resilience to no-sell the wound entirely.
Venom didn't stay adjacent to Amora the whole time, instead bouncing between targets to leverage his defense subtraction and try to take down the enemy team. He tore it up pretty well and it looked like he was gonna put Team Enchantress over the top, but Batman managed to scrape through (thanks in part to those d20 rolls) and win the day.
Unit Summary: - Damage Done (Normal Attack): 2 wounds to Batman in 4 attacks (2 evaded), 4 wounds to Nite Owl in 2 attacks (destroyed), 3 wounds to Huntress in 1 attack
- Symbiote Clamber: used for movement throughout. Subtracted from Huntress' defense 1 time, Nite Owl's defense 1 time, Batman's defense 1 time.
- Lethal Protector: not directly used, prevented attacks on Enchantress several times
- Unstoppable Resilience: ignored 2 wounds from Evasive Strike, 3 wounds from Batman's normal attack, 1 wound from Robin's attack, 1 wound from Nite Owl's attack, 1 wound from Ruthless Counterstrike
- Damage Taken/UR: 6 wounds from Batman in 1 special attack & 5 normal attacks (destroyed), 0 wounds from Robin in 1 attack, 0 wounds from Nite Owl in 1 attack, 1 wound from Ruthless Counterstrike, 0 wounds from Huntress in 1 normal attack
Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Batman with 2 wounds
THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Had some other possible games in mind, but figured I'd pause here and see how people were feeling. He's individually kicking ass, but losing a lot, which tells me that I haven't zeroed in on quite the right build for him. The lack of hard paper synergies makes him a little tricky to slot into an army, but it feels thematic to me that he just pops up in weird mish-mashes... that's very much how his team appearances in comics are.
Heavy-hitters can cut through him, but he's a terror to low/mid-level guys. Really happy with how he feels overall.
Lethal Protector hasn't directly come up much for me, but it's definitely a big influence on his engagement dynamics and enemy decision-making.
