Re: The Book of The Chief (Public Playtesting)
C3G STANDARD PLAYTEST FEEDBACK FORM
NAME OF THE PLAYTEST UNIT: The Chief @165 points
Army Test
Map: Custom
Units: Chief, Elasti-Girl, Robotman, Negative Man, Negative Spirit, Changeling (940) vs Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Super-Skrull (Kl'rt) (940)
Spoiler Alert!
The Doom Patrol were able to mobilize pretty quick in the first round. Negative Man hung back a bit and Chief moved up the field a bit, but to a spot with some tree cover, while the rest moved out to engage the enemy. Immediately love the Robotman/Elasti-Girl movement dynamics. Doom Patrol had some bummer turns in the first round, though, and whiffed some attack rolls.
Start of the second round, Doom Patrol got the initiative. Negative Man deployed the Negative Spirit, which had just enough move to fly up and engage Ms. Marvel to tie her down. Robotman then got emotionally manipulated into a 7-die attack on Super-Skrull that did enough damage to bring Kl'rt down to 1 Life. Spider-Man yanks the Negative Spirit away from Ms. Marvel to free her up, and she decides to take the bait and start blasting away at Robotman. The Avengers take him down, but not before he destroys Super-Skrull. Robotman goes on the Chief's card to be rebuilt. Elasti-Girl and Negative Spirit spent the rest of the round trading wounds with Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man. The Negative Spirit went back to Negative Man's card.
Third round was much of the same, with Elasti-Girl and Negative Spirit getting more actvations than Changeling. Changeling's the swiss army knife here, but Negative Spirit is the better auto-wounder and Elasti-Girl the bigger gun. The Avengers seem to have the edge here, but a 1-Life, reduced defense Elasti-Girl manages to take a hit from Ms. Marvel without going down, then she turns around and hits Carol for 3 wounds: exactly enough to take her down and kill 2 OMs with her.
Fourth round was Doom Patrol vs Spider-Man. DP got off to a good start with Chief manipulating Elasti-Girl into scoring a couple wounds on Spider-Man. From there, the auto-wounders finished him off, though he did manage to take Elasti-Girl down with himl.
Unit Summary: - Damage Done (Normal Attack): not used
- Patrol Leader: used for OM management throughout.
- Emo Manipulation: used in the first round: added to 1 of Changeling's attacks. Used in the second round: added to 2 of Robotman's attacks, subtracted from 2 of his defenses. - Genius Escape: not used
- Damage Taken: none

Units: Chief, Elasti-Girl, Changeling, Nightcrawler (II) (800) vs Baron Zemo (Heinrich), Red Skull, Shocker, Rhino (800)
Spoiler Alert!
Slightly trickier thing here, with Chief having Changeling and Elasti-Girl for double turns, but Nightcrawler to try and manipulate to really leverage those stat boosts. Manipulated Nightcrawler wrecks shop pretty good, but he's more fragile and the whole build is kind of delicate. The Masters are able to pick it apart more easily than the Avengers could handle the straight-up Patrol build.
Or at least, it seems like it's going that way, but then a Manipulated Elasti-Girl came up with a couple of huge attack rolls (6-7 skulls) and blew away Rhino (who was threatening The Chief) and Red Skull, killing a couple OMs in the process. Solo Shocker couldn't quite hack it.
Unit Summary: - Damage Done (Normal Attack):
- Patrol Leader: used for OM management until Chief got a couple wounds, because at that point Elasti-Girl was his only surviving troop, and seemed the safer place for OMs. Chief just got a couple at the start of rounds three and four, to trigger Emotional Manipulation.
- Emo Manipulation: used in the first round: added to 2 of Nightcrawler's attacks, subtracted from 1 of his defenses. Used in the second round: added to 2 of Nightcrawler's attacks, subtracted from 2 of his defenses. Used in the third round: added to 3 of Elasti-Girl's attacks. Used in the fourth round: added to 2 of Elasti-Girl's attacks, subtracted from 2 of her defenses.
- Genius Escape: Dealt 1 wound to Rhino. Evaded 1 attack.
- Damage Taken: 2 wounds from Rhino in 2 attack.
Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): The Chief with 2 wounds, Elasti-Girl unwounded
THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: The dynamic between the Doom Patrol members is really cool. Would definitely play em again. Strong showings here, but that may prove to be an outlier, and I'm not completely sure I played smart enough against the Doom Patrol. Really fun little tight-knit faction, though. Great work here.
(Random aside, but as-worded, The Chief can manipulate himself, which seems a bit weird)
