Re: The Book of Rick Flag Jr. (Public Testing)
NAME OF THE PLAYTEST UNIT: Rick Flag @105 points
Army Test 1
Map: Sewer Labyrinth
Units: Trial by Blood: Rick (105), Waller (195), Mentallo (135), Parasite (240), Electro (135), Wizard (140), Tombstone (160),Skrull Infiltrator x4 (40)- 1150 total vs The Phoenix Gambit: Dark Phoenix (430), Phoenix (420), Jean Grey (230), Gambit (210), Beast Boy (Cheetah) (20), Skrull Infiltrator x2 (20)- 1150 total
Spoiler Alert!
Game Summary:
Note: It doesn't seem like Phoenix ever got updated to prevent Skrulls from being able to cancel her resurrections, but I played this game as though she had been. Also, I believe I could have taken control of Jean Grey with Mentallo and then gotten her to kill herself on Electro's Electric Skin to prevent her from resurrecting (as Phoenix switches with 'your' Jean Grey, and Jean isn't in your army while being mind controlled), but I didn't play it that way. Also, also, it was a little unclear which type of turn Mentallo cared about for getting his D-20 bonus for not moving. I played at as a player turn, as I think that is what was intended, so he wasn't quite as good a pairing with Rick (though still very good).
So the basic play here is just to try and get double turns with Parasite (using Mentallo) and hopefully auto-wound the Phoenix cycles to death before they auto-wound my whole team to death. Rick was a big help in keeping Electro and Tombstone moving up to help defend Mentallo, but the nature of the other team meant I couldn't really plop down Infiltrators to act as Staying on Task hubs and the Squad was forced to huddle together a little tighter than I wanted. Parasite and Mentallo had pretty hot D-20s and cleared out Jean and Phoenix quick enough, but once Dark showed up the Squad just couldn't quite handle her (honestly, if Waller could have picked her as the Squad's Special Assignment I think they would have won it).
Unit Summary:- Damage Done (Normal Attack): None
- Staying on Task Negated the need for the roll until he finally died. There where only 3 rolls after that, none of which triggered.
- Suicide Squad Coordinator: Usually moved up either Electro or Tombstone, though he did let Mentallo move out of engagement without taking a passing swipe at one point.
- Damage Taken: He wasn't really a priority for the other team, but Dark Phoenix did hit him with a Psionic Wave a one point and eventually took him out once some of the bigger threats were out of the way.
Result: Dark Phoenix loses control with only two life remaining as a full health Gambit makes a hasty retreat with Beast Boy.
Army Test 2
Map: Island Planecrash (no e glpyh)
Units: Stone Cold Dead: Rick (105), Waller (195), Scarlet Spiders (150), Grey Gargoyle (200), Deadshot (150), Weather Wizard (100), Captain Cold (90), Skrull Infiltrator x1 (10)- 1000 total vs The Dragon's Horde: Mandarin (280), Arthrian Invaders x4 (720)- 1000 total
Overall: I like where Flag ended up, he really bumps up the Squad to a level where it's a fun and competitive army and lets you do all sorts of interesting things between the number of support types he can move up and other tricks he has in his arsenal. The awesome synergy with Deadshot is a big plus too.
