Re: The Book of Speed - Initial Testing
I know Hawkeye is still in testing, but her cost seems to be mostly settled right now, so I went ahead and ran the Initial here:
C3G INITIAL PLAYTEST FEEDBACK FORM
NAME OF THE PLAYTEST UNIT: Speed
Army Test
Map: Modified Hydra Base (no wall caps)
Units: Speed (190), Noh-Varr (260), Stature (160), Hawkeye (140) (750) VS Cyclops (190), Emma Frost (170), Phoenix (230), Wild Child (160) (750)
Spoiler Alert!
Unit Summary:
Damage w/normal: 1 wound to Cyclops,
Reluctant Avenger: salvaged 1 OMs (#3 from Stature), -1 Defense to 1 attacks.
Molecular Destabilization SA damage: 1 wound to Emma from 1 attack, 2 wounds to Cyclops from 1 attack,
The Young Avengers were a little overmatched here, but they made it close. They saw a few opportunities early in the game to do some damage to Emma before she could Diamond Up, and they took them. It ended up costing them Noh-Varr, as Emma’s SA cut through him, but they did manage to take Emma out and save themselves some hassle later.
The big thing that hurt them was Wild Child engaging Hawkeye. It kept Wild Child from doing much as he was too far from Cyclops for a lot of the game, but Hawkeye couldn’t do anything either. The YA eventually had to knock Wild Child out to free Hawkeye, who only ended up with a few bonding turns.
Speed got one OM later in the game from Stature (Noh-Varr died at the end of na round), and his SA was pretty useful. Fun combo with Hawkeye for more potential defense subtract. In the end, he and Hawkeye couldn’t take out Phoenix.
Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): R6T1: Phoenix with 1/5 wounds.
Army Test
Map: Modified Hydra Base (no wall caps, but this time with destructible Outcroppings)
Units: Speed (190), Noh-Varr (260), Stature (160), Hawkeye (140) (750) VS Cyclops (190), Emma Frost (170), Phoenix (230), Wild Child (160) (750)
Spoiler Alert!
Unit Summary:
Damage w/normal: none.
Reluctant Avenger: salvaged 2 OMs (#3 from Noh-Varr, #3 from Hawkeye), -1 Defense to 2 attacks.
Molecular Destabilization SA damage: 1 wound to Emma Frost over 2 attacks.
Things seemed to be going better early on for the YA, but fell apart toward the end. Wild Child once again engaged Hawkeye, but different placement forced him further back. The more defensive placement from the YA gave Phoenix a chance to Psionically Blast three of them, dealing a couple wounds as well. But then Stature hit Wild Child with 4 skulls and one-shotted him. Phoenix spent a while trying to take out Noh-Varr, and while she eventually did, she fell shortly after. Speed got an OM there, but failed to do any damage. Hawkeye had the best showing with some good attack rolls, while Speed rolled poorly on defense at first, and sturggled against Emma Frost.
Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): R6T6: Emma Frost with 1/5 wounds, Cyclops with 2/4.

Units: Speed (200), Noh-Varr (260), Stature (160), Hawkeye (140), Captain America (240) (1000) VS FanFour (1000)
Spoiler Alert!
Unit Summary:
Damage w/normal: none.
Reluctant Avenger: salvaged 0 OMs, -1 Defense to 0 attacks.
Molecular Destabilization SA damage: 2 wounds to Invisible Woman over 1 attack.
Despite being down by a few points (as I don’t think Speed is really worth 200), the Young Avengers made it really close here. Had Noh-Varr hit his White Running roll, he would or have taken out Thing, who also won only on Rock Wall Defense triggering. The YA did have some lucky rolls to hit wounds early on, but they also missed a few later on, as well as Cap going down without doing much. With Speed and Noh-Varr, they have a lot of movement, and they were able to cover a lot of this map, so there wasn’t a safe place for Invisible Woman, and the two of those guys were able to take her out.
Speed only had two activations, the first for movement and the second to hit Invisible Woman. He was the first YA to fall, so Reluctant Avenger didn’t come into play here. Once he was a threat to Sue, Torch focused on him, and Flame On took him down quick.
Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): R6T5: The Thing with 5/6 wounds.
___________________________________________________________ THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: With the faction still in flux and no real direct comparisons, it’s hard to get a good gauge on his cost, but I think the design is pretty well in balance. I lean toward the higher end, but 160-190 is probably his range.
GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: Three losses here, but the faction still has room to grow, and I like Speed’s place in it. He offers nice backup for OMs, and he can deal a potent amount of damage if Reluctant Avenger kicks in. It’s tough to pull off, but if you can get Hawkeye bonding with him, you’ve got the chance for -3 Defense with his SA.
