Re: The Public design of Hoth Han
Here are my play tests for Hoth Han Solo. The first game, I took an army of rebel forces up against a classic scape snow monster team. The Dzu Te ripped them apart. The second game I did a classic rebel vs imperial face off. Both games were very fun. Here is the complete play tests completed in the spoiler tag.
Spoiler Alert!
NAME OF THE TEST UNIT (Hoth Han Solo)
ARMY CARD TEXT
Paste the text for the version of the card used in the test.
Human
Unique Hero
Scout
Bold
LARGE
Life 5
Move 7
Range 5
Attack 3
Defense 4
Points 110
RESCUE MISSION
After moving Han Solo, you may choose a friendly small or medium figure that he moved though or that was adjacent to him at any point before or during his movement. Place the chosen figure on any empty space adjacent to Han Solo. Figures moved with Rescue Mission never take leaving engagement attacks.
AGGRESSIVE SCOUTING
If Han Solo attacks a figure that was not within 5 clear sight spaces before moving, he may attack one additional time. Han may not use Aggressive Scouting and Rescue Mission on the same turn.
SNOW AND ICE ENHANCED MOVEMENT
Slippery Ice and Heavy Snow only count as 1 space when moving.
THEME TEST
Check to see if there are any powers or stats on the test unit card that do not accurately reflect the theme or likeness of what the character would and could do. Also consider destructible objects, and whether or not this characters powers should affect them.
Pass, the theme fits the character pretty well. Though I did tend to use Han as a transport for heroes into the fight more than taking them out to be "Rescued". The rest of it fits quite well.
MIRROR TEST
Check to see if the unit were played against itself, if there would be any loops that would upset the balance of the Game.
Pass, none that I could see.
BONDING TEST
Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing Bonding abilities to make sure there are no continual Bonding possibilities that do not stop appropriately or do not stop at all. This is to prevent loops in Bonding.
Pass, the most you get out of it would be if you picked someone up, while yoda rode on your back, while chewie tagged along with his life debt. At most you move up to 4 figures, two of them being yoda and chewie. but no attack bonding.
SYNERGIES TEST
Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing synergies to make sure there are no factors that could break the game by making any unit too powerful or too weak.
Pass, none I can see beside the chewbacca life debt that adds to defense.
POWER CHECK
Consider the test unit and all existing units and all glyphs to compare to and check for any powers that could be over amplified and break the game. Each power must define when it takes place, Who or What it affects, and What are the stipulations on the power if there are any.
Pass, looks good.
FUN TEST
Consider whether or not the design was fun to play.
Pass, It was fun running in with Han, guns blazing. Or bringing a hero into battle with him. It felt like a bold Han Solo.
FUN COMPETITIVE TEST
Consider whether or not the design was fun to play against.
Pass, yeah he was fun to fight, not too strong. Like playing with a hit and run car.
DRAFTING TEST
Consider whether or not this design is worth drafting.
Pass, I would definitely draft this design. Points are on in my opinion.
USAGE TEST
Consider whether or not all of the powers on this card were used or at least usable.
Pass, all abilities were used on the card, It seems like after I bring a hero up into battle I drop them off, and start aggressively scouting. Add in some heavy snow, and you have a fast moving hit and run hero.
STRATEGY TEST
Consider whether or not the design offers any real strategy or interesting tactics to the overall game.
Pass, This guy gives you a handful of options on about any map, add in a snow map, and you have even more.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Describe your overall impressions of the design and how it plays.
Pass, This guy has all of what a "Hoth Han Solo" should have. He plays very thematically, It would seem that the rescue ability also works as an offensive play. I would say the offensive usage of it shadows the "rescue" part of it, but see how it still could thematically work.
